SOAR earns 4th after Olympic effort Special to the DN This past weekend seven Sun Oaks Aquatics Racing swimmers shined at the Sierra Nevada Long Course Junior Olympics in Roseville. The competition was tough as 769 of the best swim- mers from 27 teams competed to see who was the best. all out of the 27 teams in attendance. Leading the way for Sun Oaks was 10-year- The Junior Olympics has trials and finals so only the Top 8 swimmers in each event get to return to the pool at night for finals. For some of the swimmers this meant having as many as six swims in one day which is very tiring over a four- day period. Despite the heat, the swimmers slashed old times and achieved new "AA", "AAA" and West- ern Zone time standards. SOAR placed 4th over- ANDERSON INVITATIONAL Special to the DN The Red Bluff Tritons made an appearance at the three-day Anderson Aqua- gators Invitational. Bluff was represented by 36 local swimmers. 194 swimmers attended. According to a USA Swimming rule, "With the exception of championship meets the … age group competition shall be planned to allow the events for swimmers 12 years and younger to be completed in four (4) hours or less for a timed finals session…." Because of this rule, the Aquagators created a split session meet. Twenty-five Swimmers 12 years and younger participated in a session on Saturday and Sunday mornings and 11 swimmers ages 13-18 par- ticipated in a session on the afternoons of Saturday and Sunday. Manta Rays swam strong and fast in Anderson. work hard and it is paying off in a big way. The Manta Rays will face the Red Bluff Tritons in Red Bluff on Wednesday for a dual meet and then travel to Quincy to participate in the Plumas Pines Invitational this week- end. Manta Rays swimmers continue to RESULTS Tayler Snow (9-10 year old girls): Snow grabbed the second-place tro- phy for girls 9-10 year old overall High Point with her fast swims. Snow placed 3rd in the 100 breast- stroke, 3rd in 50 breaststroke, 3rd in 50 fly, 5th in 200 freestyle, 4th in 100 IM, 4th in 50 backstroke, 6th in 100 freestyle, 9th in 50 freestyle. This was Snow's best meet, so far, of the 2012 season. Sarah Grine (13-14 year old old Jayne Brandt. She scored 32 points for her team and finished 4th overall in the 10 and under age group. In the 100M Breast she placed 2nd and got a new "AAA" time of 1:36.54. Jayne brought home two 3rd-place medals in the 100M Free with a AAA time of 1:13.98 and a "AA" time in the 50M Breast, 44.50. She finished in 5th place in the 50M Fly, "AAA", 37.07 and also in the 100M Back, AA, 1:28.07. Brandt earned 6th place in the 50M Free, "AA", 34.24 and 7th place in the 50M Back, A, 42.05. She helped her relay teams to 8th and 9th place finishes as well. Jayne qualified to swim all of these events and two more at the Far Western Championships August 1-5 in San Jose. She has also been select- ed to the Sierra Nevada Western Zone Team which will compete at the Western Zone Cham- pionships in Grand Junction, Colo. where the top swimmers from the Western U.S. will congregate August 7-12. Fellow Dairyville swimmer Jaxon Balken, 10, who also has been selected to compete in Col- orado, had an outstanding meet as well. In addi- tion to finishing 5th overall in the 10 and under boys division with 26 points, he also earned the prestigious Western Zone Cuts in the 50M Back (39.47) and the 100M Back (1:24.95). His high- est placement was in the 50 Back where he fin- ished 2nd. Kristina Tobin not only took home a 2nd place trophy for the 6 & under age group, but improved every time in her events to break six new records for the Anderson Invitational. Record times were set by Tobin in the 100 Individual Medley, 50 yard backstroke, 50 yard breaststroke, 50 yard freestyle, 100 yard freestyle, and 25 yard freestyle. Joslyn Shults also earned a trophy for the 6 & under age group, and took 3rd place overall.
