OFFICIAL ALUMNI NEWSLETTER OF NU CHAPTER OF SIGMA NU FRATERNITY, INC. I FALL 2016 NU NEWS PROUD BEYOND MEASURE House Corporation Recognizes Active Chapter Accomplishments G reetings, fellow Nu Chapter brothers. I hope this newsletter finds you well. Here is a brief update on the state of the chapter since I last wrote to you. PROJECT UPDATES Brad Ashley '98, Nu 2058 has been working hard over the last few months to bid all service contracts, and we have seen significant savings. This allows us to reinvest in additional maintenance, such as touch-up painting, electrical repairs, and HVAC work. As with any property, the maintenance list is long but manageable. Throughout the next several years, the House Corporation wants to improve the maintenance program and continue to provide a great house for the active chapter. SPRING SEMESTER GRADES The undergraduates of Nu Chapter have yet again made us proud. The chapter GPA was a 3.44, second only to the Betas at 3.49. Nu Chapter continues to rank as one of the top Greek houses on the Hill. Terrific job, guys! ROCK CHAPTER Nu received Rock Chapter status at Grand Chapter this summer. Only 11 of the 166 chapters and colonies of Sigma Nu achieved this recognition. To achieve Rock Chapter status, there are three aspects of leadership, four of personal and alumni development, and three of operational development that are graded. Our young men have worked hard over the last several years to excel in all 10 areas. This is no small feat. This is just another reason we are all proud of the fine young men of Nu Chapter. CONTINUING SAGA The chapter houses in the Kansas Fraternity Landlords League (KFLL) continue to meet monthly to coordinate efforts to present Greek organizations as vital to the interests of the university. KFLL has recently hired a public relations firm to cultivate positive messages to the public. We have all faced the broad-stroking stereotypes when any chapter anywhere gets into trouble. The members of the KFLL continually surpass the university community in grades, retention, and graduation rates. The awards that member chapters receive, like winning Rock Chapter designation, will be highlighted. These are the messages we will be communicating to the public to reinforce the truth that our fraternity men are not hedonistic party boys. Fraternally, Steve Moon '67, Nu 1257 House Corporation President The prestigious 2015-16 Rock Chapter award. Members of the '67 class gather at the house for their 50th reunion. Of the 22 members still living, 17 attended. Many thanks to Bob Matejka '67, Nu 1245, for pulling it together. C elebrating Homecoming with many Sigma Nu brothers, including the 50-year reunion with the pledge class of 1967, was a huge step in the right direction regarding alumni support for Nu Chapter. After winning Rock Chapter this past year, Nu's alumni base wants to get more involved.
