Page 2 Beta Tidings JAKE CRONAUER '11: Why I Stay Connected to Beta Sigma Psi O utgoing, loyal, and passionate: three words Jake Cronauer '11 uses to describe his personality. In fact, Jake attributes much of who he is today to the values and traditions he was exposed to in Beta Sigma Psi at Purdue University. "I was recruited to Beta Chapter right out of high school; the Fraternity felt like a very safe place to me and was a great outlet for growing friendships, building support, and networking with like- minded individuals who brought out the best in me," Jake says. Jake was a zealous member from the start in Beta Chapter, serving as president, first vice president, and recruitment chairman. "Pursuing leadership opportunities in Beta Sigma Psi allowed me to branch out and realize my true potential not only in the Fraternity but in all other aspects of life. I owe a great deal of my involvement to Brent Seifert '89 and Adam Rusch '02, who really spearheaded the Chapter revival and who helped revamp Chapter operations and recruitment strategies. Also, the brothers in the house provided a home base for me during some of the most transformative years of my life, and it was always nice to have someone there to talk to and share all of my exciting college experiences with." As an alumnus, Jake maintains connections with several alumni, including Jon Tower '10, Josh Scott '11, Nathaniel Smock '12, and Nathan Wiedemann '12, to name a few. A loyal Boilermaker, Jake enjoys visiting the university to attend tailgates and football games with brothers any chance he gets. He encourages alumni of all ages to reconnect with Beta Chapter and says, "It is easy to forget the impact Beta Chapter had on us during our undergraduate years; when you join Beta Sigma Psi, you join for life. Alumni support has paid dividends to the continued success of our Chapter, and we must continue building on this support to ensure the Chapter maintains its prominent standing at Purdue. Whether it's stopping by the house to interact with our undergraduate brothers, volunteering for the alumni board, or contributing finances, your involvement is paramount to the future of our beloved Fraternity." With all of the upcoming house renovations and u n d e r g r a d u a t e m e m b e r s taking a more active role in the community, Jake has high hopes for Beta Sigma Psi. He says, "I'm a firm believer in always striving to exceed expectations and reaching the next level of excellence. Participating in more service projects around the community as well as continuing to improve our Chapter's image will undoubtedly take Beta Chapter to new heights." Jake works at Eastman Chemical Company in Curtisville, Indiana, as a quality engineer, which involves supporting liquid applied material and structures of the material. The company works with several different automotive manufacturers, including Toyota and Subaru. When he is not hard at work, you'll likely find Jake traveling or playing trumpet, piano, guitar, or basketball. Beta Chapter also hosted a Spikeball tournament at the end of November, which benefitted Alzheimer's research. If you are passing through West Lafayette, I encourage you to stop by the house and visit with brothers. We enjoy connecting with you and sharing visions for the future.
