BETA TIDINGS A PUBLICATION OF BETA SIGMA PSI AT PURDUE UNIVERSITY FALL 2016 T hroughout the last year, Beta Chapter has made large steps in a great direction in a variety of areas. From recruitment to academics and involvement on campus, Beta Chapter has been an excellent representative of Christianity on Purdue's campus. We have increased our active membership to 35 active brothers and six members who are in the new member education program. With new recruitment tools and help from several resources, we expect to be over 50 members by next fall. Chapter Boosts Academic Performance Through our rigorous renovation of the Chapter scholarship program and the dedication from our brothers, Beta Chapter raised our cumulative GPA by 0.21. Academic Chairman Lars Henderson '15, a pharmacy student, has put in countless efforts to the program and assistance to the brothers to create this success. Beta Chapter is ranked 17th out of the 42 fraternities on campus and has been on an upward path for the last four semesters. With a new member class coming in with an average high school GPA of over a 3.9, the academic future of Beta Chapter is looking bright. Brothers Demonstrate Leadership on Campus Over the last spring and fall semesters, Beta Chapter has held an esteemed position on Purdue University's campus. Between involvement with University Lutheran Church, admirable clubs, and intramural sports, Beta Chapter continues to improve on its long-standing traditions. Nik Kiess '15 serves as the head deacon of University Lutheran, where he assists with the organization and administration of church events. Also, Nik and Logan White '14 serve on the church council, where the major church business is conducted. Samual Hathaway '16 is an active member of the Purdue Musical Organization's Varsity Glee Club, where he is a respected leader and a member of the elite solo group Ba Na Na. Nik, Jon Adair '14, and I are a part of the College Mentors for Kids program as fourth-grade mentors for at-risk children.
