THE
CHAPTER
ETERNAL
John F. Abele '68 entered Chapter
Eternal on June 4 after a long
battle with pancreatic cancer. After
graduating from UA, John moved
into the family business, The Robert
James Company, with his father,
uncle, and brother. The company
had a successful run in the printing
and office supply industry. In 1990,
John and his wife, Caroline, opened
Travel Professionals International to
carry on their mutual love of travel.
They later sold TPI to All Seasons
Travel, where John continued his
love of sports travel. John was an
avid amateur golfer and competed
for many years in Alabama Golf
Association tournaments, and even
more weekend grudge matches with
his beloved Matthews Marauders at
The Mountain Brook Club. John is
survived by his wife and best friend
of 46 years, Caroline; sons, John
and Christopher; six grandchildren,
Helen, Christopher, Julia,
Alexander, John, and Margaret;
sister, Julia; brother, James; and
several nieces and nephews.
