FALL 2016 ED DOO R R ALABAMA BETA s THE UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA SIGMA PHI EPSILON THE New Chapter House to Be Move-In Ready in August Alumni and Undergraduates Benefit from Premier, New Facility I t is an exciting time to be a SigEp at the University of Alabama. Alabama Beta is providing an unmatched Fraternity experience that is modeling the way for the Greek community at UA. The Chapter has earned the highest GPA among fraternities 10 of the past 11 semesters and is providing top-notch personal and professional development through the Balanced Man Program (BMP). Both the Alumni Volunteer Corporation (AVC) and National Fraternity want to position our Chapter for long-term success. We are excited to present you with an update on the SigEp housing project in Tuscaloosa. In the past several months, we have made significant progress working alongside SigEp National Housing (SENH) to define the design and timeframe of the housing project. The Chapter's new, permanent home will be at 304 University Boulevard, which is the current location of the Kappa Alpha house. Our goal throughout the process has been to remodel and create a brand new residential learning facility for Alabama Beta. The current plans call for 22,000 total square feet that will be home to 35 live-in brothers, more than 130 active members, and alumni. The facility design will contain the following: t Chapter room on third floor t Dining area that can fit 100-plus brothers t Lounge and study space for both live-in and live-out members t Alumni room t Multipurpose space that can be utilized for in-house classes and seminars t Commercial kitchen Design conversations have been in the works for 18 months with consistent conversations happening between the AVC, SENH, and the University of Alabama. The total cost of construction will be approximately $4 million with the financing provided by the University of Alabama. The University Construction Department expects to start work shortly after the holidays with an expected date of completion of August 1. The Balanced Man Program continues to be the differentiating factor in SigEp's success at UA, and our goal is to have a premier living-learning environment that supplements the BMP. As we redefine the Fraternity experience, we plan to partner with the University to teach accredited courses in the facility and have a Chapter House that will foster the developmental and academic endeavors of our brothers. Fraternally, Alabama Beta AVC A lumni brothers, we are in need of your assistance. Next August, our collegiate members will be moving into the new Chapter House, so it's essential we do all we can to make that an exciting experience. Previously, we announced a goal of $8,000 to furnish the dedicated alumni room. Thanks to the generous support from a handful of alumni, we have raised $4,500 so far. In addition to furnishing the alumni room, we need funds to purchase furniture for the dining room, Chapter room, and bedrooms. It is important we raise sufficient funds prior to May 1 so we can order the furniture in time for August delivery and installation. If you would like to make a contribution, you may dedicate your gift in memory or in honor of one of your brothers. All contributors and their respective dedications will be published in an upcoming Red Door newsletter. We appreciate any contributions, no matter the size, as they will go a long way toward furnishing the Chapter House. Enclosed you will find a commitment card and return envelope. Please fill out the commitment card and send that with your check to AVC Alabama Beta. Your generous support is greatly appreciated. Together we can ensure our new Chapter House is a beacon of pride for past, current, and future Alabama Beta brothers.
