T he women of Kappa Alpha Theta had a very eventful summer. We had women interning in cities such as New York and Seattle, studying abroad in all corners of the world— from Czechoslovakia to Japan to South Africa, and working as camp counselors for Kanakuk Kamps in Missouri. We are so thankful for amazing opportunities and lessons learned but so glad to be in the midst of the fall semester with sisters. After a summer apart, we hit the ground running with two productive weeks full of late nights, lots of laughter, and even a sisterhood pool party. This year's recruitment was geared more toward a values-based recruiting system, and we were so encouraged by this positive change. It resulted in an amazing new member class of 82 outstanding women. We could not be more excited to welcome these ladies into our new home! This year's Bid Day was one to remember. The theme, "Dreaming of Gold," was a beautiful way to welcome new members into a truly golden sisterhood. For a closer look into the excitement and joys of Bid Day, go to our Mizzou Kappa Alpha Theta Facebook page, and click the link to our Bid Day video. From there, you can check out other videos from work week and recruitment. Rachel Voigt '14 and Claire Kopsky '14 reuniting on Theta's front lawn after Rachel returned from being a recruitment Panhellenic counselor. Alex Gentile and Alex Simpson being welcomed into Theta on Bid Day by Jasmine Wells '15. Our chapter also had the honor of sending eight women to be Panhellenic counselors (Pi Chis) and disaffiliate from Theta to help lead potential new members through the process of recruitment for the 2016 year. On Bid Day we welcomed Katherine Sitton '14, Rachel Voigt '14, Ashleigh Atasoy '14, Alexandra Stoker '14, Hanna Reinkmeyer '14, Emily Schnitker '14, Megan Dillow '13, and Haley Schemmer '13 back home to Theta as well. The rest of the semester held many exciting opportunities for Theta! We were so excited to be paired with the men of Beta Sigma Psi and Alpha Kappa Lambda for Homecoming. We won fifth place overall! Our fall philanthropic event, Flapjacks and Quarterbacks, was also a highlight. The late-night pancake dinner was held from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. on November 4, and our football tournament was held on the afternoon of November 5. In all, we raised $14,450 for our philanthropies this semester. We always enjoy the chance to support Mid-Missouri CASA and the Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation through the donations we get from these two events.
