Deputies responded to Mary Avenue at 10 p.m. Sunday. The boy had injuries to his head and neck and said they were inflicted by an un- known man wielding a knife, according to a press release issued Monday by the Tehama County Sheriff's Office. The boy was found by the owner of a res- idence on Mary Avenue and was reported to have several stab wounds. Deputies took what statement they could be- fore the boy was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Detectives are investigating the incident and coordinating with the Corning Police Depart- ment and Glenn County authorities to develop leads in the case. As of Monday afternoon no further informa- tion was released regarding the health of the boy or any leads on a suspect or motive. CORNING Teenager stabbed, suspect sought By Kristin J. Bender and Paul Elias The Associated Press SAN FRANCISCO A Northern California woman who disappeared while jogging three weeks ago turned up on the side of a California interstate before dawn on Thanksgiving, badly beaten and chained to a "heavy object." Investigators say they are searching for two women who released Sherri Papini about 140 miles south of where she was last seen near Red- ding. But authorities have released few other details, citing the "critical and active investigation." Here's a look at what we know, plus some of the outstanding questions about the case. Whathappened? On Nov. 2, Papini donned a pink running shirt, grabbed her cell phone and earbuds and went for a jog in her rural neighborhood near Redding. Her husband Keith Papini started looking for her when he returned home from work that eve- ning and neither his wife nor their two young children were home. The couple's daycare provider told Keith Pap- ini his 34-year-old wife didn't pick up their chil- dren that afternoon. Using an iPhone app, Keith Papini found her phone and earbuds about a mile away, but his 5-foot 3-inch, 100-pound wife was nowhere to be found. He called the Shasta County Sheriff's Department, which launched an intensive land and air search involving hundreds of volunteers, family and friends and multiple law enforcement agencies. Put on by the Red Bluff- Tehama County Cham- ber of Commerce and the Downtown Red Bluff Busi- ness Association, the pa- rade had 49 entries regis- tered. Due to bad weather only 30 entries partic- ipated, but a good size crowd came out to watch. "The weather was great during the event but it was windy and rainy before," said Dave Gowan, presi- dent and CEO of the cham- ber. "The two marching bands were disappointed they couldn't be in the pa- rade but due to their new uniforms and new instru- ments there was no way they could do it. A lot of the larger entries showed up so it was still a big parade." Winners were an- nounced in the following categories: Equestrian — Red Bluff Jr. Round-Up Royalty; Floats — West- side 4-H; Marching Units — Tehama County Young Marines; Novelty — Jaida Jobe and Vehicle Units — Cal Fire and Tehama County Fire.
