The farm bureau hosts many activities in the county through- out the year to promote agricul- ture including the Farm-City Night to bring all areas of the community together and is near- ing the celebration of its centen- nial, April 8. About 180 runners and walkers turned out to start the holiday off with some ex- ercise, according to members of the Active 20-30 Club of Red Bluff, which organized the first time event. "We're accidentally having a mud run out here today," said organizer and sponsor Sean Rix. "Your sneakers are going to get dirty." The 5K course took run- ners from the soccer fields at the corner of Park Avenue and Baker Road past the solar field and school farm to a practice field near the school's softball fields before returning to the start along the same route. A 1-mile option was available and both runners and walk- ers were welcome. "We had people raving about the course, some said it was the best 5K they have ever run," said 20-30 club Presi- dent Amanda Jenkins. "They have hoped Red Bluff would have its own Turkey Trot to keep people here for the hol- iday instead of going to Red- ding or Chico to run." Money raised by the $20 en- try fee per runner will be do- nated to the soccer field light- ing project being undertaken by the Red Bluff Youth Soc- cer League. By lighting the existing fa- cility, league President Steve Bronze has said the fields can have longer playing times and will allow them to be used for tournaments at dif- ferent times of the year. As it stands players are often una- ble to play and practice due to darkness. Lighting would allow for the soccer season to be open 8-10 months each year. The 20-30 club, which also is in its first year in Red Bluff, hopes to make the run an an- nual tradition. "We were so pleased with the turnout and are looking forward to next year," Jen- kins said.
