He found that in the new Sigma Phi Epsilon at UF. Sometimes it's just the luck of the draw, and John had luck on his side this fall. He became the 3,000th member to be initiated into Florida Alpha. Our 3,000th member is from Gainesville and is majoring in mechanical engineering. With a passion for the environment and others around him, John has experience in volunteering as a tutor, soccer coach, as a team member for Catholic HEART Workcamp, and for 7th Generation Environment Club. John also enjoyed playing soccer throughout high school. We are excited to have John join SigEp, as well as all our new freshmen. We can't wait to see what heights they take Florida Alpha to in the future. Scholarship Winners (Continued from page 5) The BMS was not the only award of the night. Three outstanding brothers were recognized for living the principles of SigEp: Virtue, Diligence, and Brotherly Love. Chaplain Brendon Martin '18 received the Virtue award for his dedication to keeping our Chapter aligned with the values of SigEp. Vice President of Communications Jon Katz '19 received the Diligence award for the huge amount of time and work he has put into his position. Events Chairman Ryan Moran '19 received the Brotherly Love award for continuously being there when any brother needed any help and doing everything he could to foster an inclusive culture, made difficult by the fact that we currently have no house to serve as a communal meeting place. Volunteers helping with the recolonization at the University of Florida were also recognized for their dedication of time and resources to assist the Chapter, including Zac Gillman, employed by SigEp Headquarters, to help new chapters develop; Steve Shewbrooks '66, a mentor to to many of the undergraduate executive board members, and who dedicates a huge amount of time to our efforts; and Jack Casseaux and Simmone Horman, UF faculty who have been a huge help and asset to our Chapter. The winners of the Florida Alpha Alumni Scholarship, presented by Bert Harris '74, President of the Florida Alpha Educational Foundation, were announced as well. The winners were Patrick Goodrich '18, Louis Cavallo '19, Carlos Piedrahita '19, Kyle Sarbak '19, and Ryan Decker '19, our BMS chairman who was responsible for organizing and executing the entire BMS event. The standards have been set high, and I am confident we will find the most remarkable and talented undergraduates on campus. The search for 2017's scholarship winners starts now.
