The events are held by Corn- ing veterans groups to honor all of those who have served the country bothintimesofwarandpeace.The parade starts at 10 a.m. Friday and travels west on Solano Street start- ing from City Hall, 794 Third St. ThelunchwillbeheldattheVet- erans Memorial Hall, 1620 Solano St., immediately following the pa- rade. The parade is hosted by the Corning AmVets. The lunch is hosted by the Corning Veterans of Foreign Wars. The pre-luncheon program will include members from all Corning veteransgroupsduringwhichlocal Boys Scouts will present the colors and lead the group on the pledge of allegiance. Corning Union High School students Jamie Martin and Chris Strube will sing the national anthem. The keynote address will be de- liveredbyOperationIraqiFreedom veteran Angel Herrera. The cost of the lunch is $7 and includes chicken, green salad and beans. For more information, call Dennis Wyman at 200-1462. Audience members were thanked for taking time to come totheeventwithaspecialthanks given to Tom Threlkeld who re- tiredasafifthgradeteacherfrom JacksonHeights,butcontinuesto help Metteer School with its mu- sic program. After serving for four years in the Navy from 1971- 1975, he dedicated his life to ed- ucation and then to developing a vibrant music program at Met- teer School, the master of cere- monies said. The event kicked off with stu- dents being led in the Pledge of Allegiance song with Tehama County Young Marines Pfc. Mi- randaKain,Sgt.TrevorKain,Sgt. Vance Crane and Pfc. Walter Wil- liams presenting thecolors.2015- 2016JuniorMissTehamaCounty MatilynSzychuldaperformedthe National Anthem. Senior Chief Rob Burroughs, who served in the Navy for 23 years,gavethemainaddress, giv- ing the background of Veterans Day,w hich started out as Armi- stice Day following World War I to commemorate the end of the war, he said. In 1954, the day was changed to Veterans Day to in- cludebothWorldWarIandWorld War II Veterans. According to the preliminary numbers Red Bluff City Coun- cil incumbent Clay Parker has the lead with 1,544 votes and Amanda Jenkins has 1,155 votes out of the 4,142 votes cast. Jen- kins is leading Chris Carey by more than 400 votes. Jenkins said it's an honor to be elected and thanked all who came out to support her. She looks forward to serving Red Bluff. Parker said he is honored the city allowed him to continue his work on the council. He said he plans to continue to do his best for the city. Kathy Brandt appears to have secured a spot on the Red Bluff Joint Union High School Dis- trict Board with 4,926 votes in the preliminaries. In second is incumbent Lida Chase has 4,374 votes, about 225 more votes than Mancill Tiss. Brandt said she is very excited to be elected to the position and is looking forward to helping Red Bluff High School be the best school it can be. Others are in the lead with a narrower gap including the top Corning City Council can- didates Robert Snow with 525 votes and Jose "Chuy" Valerio with 511 votes. Snow said he was glad to see people getting out and voting. If the numbers stayed the same, he said, he looks forward to serving Corning and will do the best he can throughout his time on the council.
