4A Daily News– Wednesday, July 18, 2012 Commerceenterprise business By CHRIS GODDARD Special to the DN — Tehama County Chamber of Commerce is to promote business development to achieve economic growth and a high quality of life for the advancement of the area and to build a bet- ter communi- ty. The Cham- ber helps busi- nesses maxi- mize their opportunities for success through net- working, mar- keting, small business support, education, repre- sentation and information. To that end, then-Chamber Chair Greg Stevens proposed that the Cham- ber organize a committee of Chamber members who would serve that purpose by actively seeking out new Chamber mem- bers and welcoming them to our business community. Ambassadors go to the business, introduce themselves and person- ally invite the business to partici- pate in Chamber events, such as "Good Morning Red Bluff" and "Business After Hours." Both of these events are low-key, social networking gatherings created to connect Chamber members to share ideas and promote their business. Ambassadors attending these events facilitate introduc- tions to quickly acclimate the new member and help them feel at ease. Chamber members who Ambas- attend these events tend to be more actively involved in all programs and projects of the Chamber. Ambassadors are not just there to welcome new members. Ambassadors actively recruit new members in course of their day to day business. It is easier for active members of an organization to recruit new members as they already feel that membership is valuable and a benefit to them. Don't be surprised when an Ambassador invites you to become involved! When you do, you will see why the Ambassadors are passionate about their position and their Chamber. Your current Ambassadors are Chris Goddard (Chair) of Lariat Bowl, Dave Bartle of Shasta.com, Sue Becker of Lassen House, Laura Burgdorf with SERVPRO, Scott Camp of North Valley Bap- tist Church, Kitt Condrey-Miller of Hard Drive, Debbie Goddard of Umpqua Bank, Jennifer Meda of Walker Printing and Valerie Shaw of Express Employment Profes- sionals. Talk to these people about your Chamber of Commerce, become involved and support this great community. don't be surprised if you ask your- self "Why didn't I do this sooner?" Once you do, Chris Goddard is a Director of the Red Bluff-Tehama County Chamber of Commerce and Chair of its Ambassadors Committee. The museum board has welcomed Jenessa Lowden to work at the museum putting into practice what she is learning as a history major at Cal Poly. She is doing her Senior Project at the museum this summer and on her school breaks. Jenessa is from Corning and in 2005-6 was Miss Corning. She is the daughter of Roy and Debbie Geer of Richfield. Her first project was to categorize and catalog all the items in the museum and make folders for each donor and each item. • If you are a cancer patient, cancer survivor or have That project has been completed and now she is on to sprucing things up by painting the inside and creating new exhibits. For the upcoming Olive Festival there will be an exhibit depicting the history of olives in Corning. We are excited about what is happening because the Chamber shares space with the museum. This will be a wonderful addition to Corning‚s downtown and a place that you will want to visit and bring visiting family and friends to. The museum is looking for new members and also donations. If you are interested in being a museum member stop by or you may want to send a check to Corning Museum, P.O. Box 871. The Chamber of Commerce would like to commend the many volunteers who showed up at the museum Sat- urday to help. Thank you Pay it Forward who came to move all the furniture and items in the museum so that painting can begin. Jenessa was very pleased to have about 15 helpers which made the work go fast and much easier than having to do it herself. Pay it Forward is a group of business people and cit- izens who care enough about downtown Corning to actually do something and make a difference. We appre- ciate the work that you have already done like painting buildings, and sprucing up the windows of some of the vacant buildings in the downtown area, and sweeping and cleaning sidewalks. You are making a difference. If there is anyone reading this that would like to get involved in the Pay it Forward please contact Lisa Rodriquez at Edward Jones, 824-4290.
