but Lou sent Josh an e-mail. After a face-to-face
interview, Mark was on board to help. The two
men went to David Booth's house to ask him if
he would be willing to fund the purchase. During
the meeting, Mark stepped out to call Bill Self
on his cell phone to ask if he would be willing to
give David some encouragement. He enthusias-
tically responded, "Yes!" Bill then called David,
and the rest is history.
Thanks to Lou's initial encouragement, the
DeBruce Center on KU's campus now houses
James Naismith's original rules of basket-
ball—right where it belongs. Lawrence is truly
the "cradle of basketball." To view the short

Lou and Mark have been married since 1979 and
live in Mission Hills, Kan. The couple has two
sons who were members of the Kansas Alpha
Chapter of Phi Delta Theta, Chris and Chad.
