pg. 2 Lambda Log CHI OMEGA FINISHES FIRST IN ACADEMICS Lambda Chapter Receives Excellence Award O ver the summer, you could find Lambdas interning in various cities across the country, studying abroad, and adventuring oversees. If you follow us on social media, our women were busy with photography, accounting, finance, dance, art, and more! Although the summer was fun-filled, we were all excited to reunite in Lawrence to kick off the semester with recruit- ment. At the end of late nights and hard work, Lambda could not be more excited to welcome 69 new members to their new home for the next four years! Chi Omega National Convention In June, I was excited to travel to Orlando, Florida, with our secretary, Katie Kretchmar '15, and two advisors to attend the Biennial Chi Omega Convention. The main focus of this year's Convention was the Cardinal Cabinet structure and the rebranding of our organization on a national level. When our Chapter slates this semester, there will be a new position added to the board, the Director of Programming. This position will oversee and take on leadership for the Cardinal Cabinets. Lambda looks forward to adopting this national change come slate. Also at Convention, our Chapter was awarded an Excellence Award and two alumnae, Betsy Thomas Shafer '49 and Dottie Thomas Dickey '45, received Lifetime Achievement Awards. Best Vocal Performance and Best Choreography Reflecting on the spring semester, we had quite the full calendar! Lambda had two national visi- tors, one for our annual visit and one for mock trial, which is a unique risk management program tailored to each chapter. Lambda received excellent reviews and feedback from each visitor, as was reflected in our Excellence Award at National Convention. We also partnered with the men of Beta Theta Pi for Rock Chalk Revue 2016, where we brought home multiple awards such as Best Vocal Performance and Choreography. This year, we are eager to partner with Pi Kappa Phi to continue our rich Rock Chalk Revue tradition. Academic Achievements In the spring semester, Chi Omega earned Top of Hill with a 3.6 GPA, adding another great semester to our countless hours of hard work and scholastic dedication. We are so proud to an- nounce that there were 44 members who earned a 4.0! Our members consistently work so hard and our spring semester grades are a superior reflection of this work. In the spring, the Greek community recognized past president Molly Norburg '13, past Student Body President Jessie Pringle '13, and Lauren Arney '13 for their outstanding leadership to sorority women. You will find our recent graduates working full time, attending law and medical schools, and working on other graduate degrees. Alumnae Event Held During Work Week Recently, we held our first alumnae event during work week, which featured recruitment sneak peaks, preference songs, and light appetizers and desserts. The day highlighted Sisterhood Day that replaced skit day, per the NPC rule of no longer allowing skits during recruitment. If you missed this event, please look out for it next year as we would be delighted to have you there. As always, we welcome any of you to come to the Chapter House whenever you might find yourself in Lawrence! If you plan on coming for a football game, we are hosting our annual philanthropic tailgate event, Wings for a Wish, on Saturday, November 12. Rock Chalk!
