Louise Willing Allen '72 Helped Bring Original Basketball Rules to KU Alumna Fondly Recalls Chi Omega Memories W hen thinking about Lambda Chapter, Louise Willing Allen '72 has a key piece of advice to alumnae and un- dergraduates. "Hold onto your experience as long as you can." Lou grew up in Omaha, Nebraska. She followed her brother, who is six years older, to KU as a music major. However, she later changed majors to the Pearson Humanities Program. She immediately got involved, as she joined the pom squad and went through sorority recruitment. On preference day, Lou sat on a love seat looking out the bay window and felt so comfortable. Chi Omega was home to her. Thanks to Chi Omega, she's able to treasure her most dear memories. Lou fondly recalls every holiday season in the Chapter House when sophomores would decorate the house with real greenery and everyone would stand on the stair- case in their red night gowns. As a member of the pom squad, she was able to travel to every away game as a senior. "It was the most fabulous experience," Lou says. Despite her busy schedule, she was still able to participate in Chi O activities, such as Rock Chalk Revue and the Chi Omega Quartet. Lou and her husband, Mark, first met at the Phi Kappa Psi shipwrecked party her senior year. Mark is the grandson of KU basketball coach- ing legend, Dr. Forrest "Phog" Allen. Fast forward years later to November 2010—Lou happened to catch the end of Josh Swade's interview on Sports Radio 810. Josh had one mission and that was to claim James Naismith's original rules of basketball for the University of Kansas. Mark didn't originally want to get involved, Lambda Chapter Receives Summer Improvements New Technology, Carpet among Enhancements W e are off to an amazing start to the 2016-17 aca- demic year! We are honored to welcome a new pledge class of 69 outstanding women into Lambda this year. This summer, the house was once again abuzz with workers as we maintained and improved our historic home to ensure that the collegians have a safe, welcom- ing, and updated environment for the school year. These improvements included new carpet in the card room, extensive exterior repairs to include tuck pointing and mortar repair (a very necessary and expensive en- deavor), new drapes in the dining room, new hardware on all doors, and more! One of the most exciting projects was the addition of new technology to the Chapter Room. The collegians are now able to enjoy a more updated, modernized space with a new projection screen and multimedia projector (includ- ing Apple TV). These new additions will allow for more informative Chapter meetings and more opportunities for sisterhood events. Thanks to our Parent's Club for their contribution to help make this project a reality. Thanks to your generosity and support, Chi Omega con- tinues to be the most beautiful house on the Hill and one of the top in the nation. We invite everyone to stop by the Chapter House on any home football game day for a tour!
