All donors will be entered into a drawing for two (2) admissions to the REO Speedwagon concert on Friday November 18th at the E-center in Laugh- lin. One unit of blood that is donated, can provide for 3 blood transfusions, so, in essence, you are help- ing 3 patients with your one unit (approximately 1 pint) of blood. It is estimated that 80% of the US population will need a blood transfusion in their lifetime. The blood you donate at your blood drive is tested, processed and delivered back into our local community hospitals to provide for surgery and chemotherapy patients, people who have blood disorders, newborn babies, expectant mothers and - of course - traumatic situations, such as accidents, shootings, etc. Ann Trilby, United Blood Services Representa- tive, added, "A new feature that has been imple- mented by United Blood Services, to help ex- pedite the interview process, is the use of their Smart Phone or Tablet, to answer the questions that are necessary to donate blood. Donors complete the Fast Track questionnaire online or on their Smart Phone or Tablet, the day they donate, then print a bar-coded ticket (or save it on their Smart Phone or Tablet) and bring it to the blood drive. Our staff scan the ticket, perform the check of vital signs, deter- mine eligibility and move the donor smoothly to phlebotomy. Fast Track has the potential to save donors as much as 20 minutes at every blood donation appointment. It also frees up staff to collect more blood to meet the needs of the communities we serve.
