Tuesday comes a day after the Sharks hired Hall of Fame defenseman and for- mer Stanley Cup winning coach Larry Robinson as associate coach. The main role for both will be on the defense and penalty kill. Johnson was a defense- man for 14 years in the NHL. He most recently was an assistant coach with the Washington Capi- tals. He also served as an assistant with Tampa Bay in 2010 and interim head coach of the Phoenix Coy- otes in 1999-00. Red Bluff's Ian Hoskins pitches in the bottom of the sixth inning Monday. By ANDRE BYIK DN Sports Editor REDDING — There would be drama. There had to be with this group of Red Bluff Major Boys All-Stars. Red Bluff's heartbreaking 6-5 loss to Foothill dashes Red Bluff's hopes team's focus zones in on opportunities. He added the kids "believe in one another." The inning was reminiscent to Red Foothill on Monday turned into a game of inches in the bottom of the sixth inning. The team entered the bottom of the inning up 5-3, and its prospect of facing East Redding for the District 1 champi- onship Tuesday was strong. Ian Hoskins was called to the mound for person familiar with the decision says the Golden State Warriors have agreed to trade starting small for- ward Dorell Wright to the Philadelphia 76ers for the rights to a player currently in Europe. 76ers OAKLAND (AP) — A the save, replacing Tanner Tweedt, and after giving up a single up the middle to Ryan Caetano, who had three RBIs to his name already on a sacrifice fly to left in the first, and a two-run blast over the center- field wall in the third, he retired the next two batters on a ground out and strike out. Hoskins, who was 3-3 with an RBI on the night, was cheered on by a Red Bluff crowd that easily overmatched its competi- tion through the District 1 tournament. Par- ents and friends filled the bleachers and overflowed down the left-field line at Alta Mesa Field in Redding. The crowd was an intimidating support group for a storied Little League program that reached the World Series in 1974, los- ing to Taiwan, and was three outs away from another appearance last year. With two outs, and a runner on first, Hoskins walked Foothill's Carson Jackson and then gave up a single up the middle to Bryce Burnett. The bases were loaded, but Red Bluff Bluff's 9-7 loss to East Redding on Satur- day. Red Bluff entered the top of the sixth down 9-2 and staged a feverish rally to score five runs, aided in part by miscues from East Redding's infield. Red Bluff had the bases loaded with two outs, down 9-7, but had momentum on its side. Casey Moore stepped up to the plate for the second time that inning and lined the ball to left field. It looked, sounded, and felt like Red Bluff would take the lead with a grand slam. was quickly consoled by his teammates back to the dugout. During the team's private post-game talk When East Redding's outfielder signaled he had the ball in his glove in deep left, Moore dropped to the ground on the base- line, and East Redding celebrated its win at first base nearby. The loss wasn't Moore's fault, and he in left field, some all-stars were visibly shaking the loss off. They would play another day against a Foothill team they soundly beat 8-2 in the southern bracket less than a week ago. Back to Hoskins, who was flanked by Foothill base runners Monday in the bot- tom of the sixth. Foothill's Tommy Dickson dug in and was still up 5-3. Foothill manager Gary Millner said his took pitches with two strikes that, if you asked Red Bluff's 10th man on the side- lines, could have been the final strikes of the game. Hoskins teased the strike zone, and good pitches, regardless of the call, turned into a bases-loaded walk. Foothill chipped into Red Bluff's lead to make it 5-4 when Luke Arnold stepped up to the plate. Ask Red Bluff's manager J.B. Stacy if he gets nervous during the games and he'll say he's nervous until the last out. "Until that last split second, you just never know," Stacy said. Hoskins threw, and a routine pop-fly flew above the infield. And then it dropped to the ground. A simple miscommunication. Foothill scored two to end the game — and Red Bluff's hopes of a repeat District 1 championship. 0 8 Sports LITTLE LEAGUE MAJOR BOYS ALL-STARS | Foothill 6, Red Bluff 5 1B Wednesday July 11, 2012 After the game, at Red Bluff's ritual post-game conference in the outfield, Stacy said he didn't dwell on the past. "We started talking about our futures," Stacy said, adding, "Baseball's a very short part of any career, even professional base- ball players' careers. You got to be a person first before you're a ball player." Stacy said it's important to move on, to become positive factors to the community. But these players will always be able to say they were Red Bluff All-Stars. ——— Sports Editor Andre Byik can be reached at 527-2151, ext. 111 or sports@redbluffdai- lynews.com.
