A labama Beta kicked off the fall semester with an incredibly fun and productive workshop week and formal recruitment. Without our chapter house, we were fortunate to recruit out of the south zone of Bryant-Denny Stadium. It was truly spectacular! Vice President of Membership Jacqueline Cloutier '14, Directors of Recruitment Lacey Cencula '13 and Morgan Savitch '13, and Recruitment Processing Chairman Margaret Giler '13 worked tirelessly throughout the spring and summer to prepare, and I am so grateful for all of their hard work. Each day of workshop week had a theme — such as outer space day and pajama day — and we held a costume competition among each class. Our members also enjoyed an afternoon on the field at Bryant-Denny with sweet treats from Steel City Pops and Gigi's Cupcakes. We had so much fun spending time together after a long summer apart, and it served as a great reminder of what it was that made us all choose Pi Phi when we went through recruitment. The University of Alabama once again hosted the largest sorority recruitment in the nation, with nearly 2,800 Potential New Members participating in the process. During workshop week, we hosted Collegiate Region 9 Programming Specialist Kathleen Meriano, New York Eta '10, who facilitated conversation workshops for our members and offered a great deal of help as we shift toward a more values-based recruitment. Leadership Development Consultant Abigail Fitzgerald, Vermont Beta '12 and Director Membership Amy Southerland, South Dakota Alpha '91 also joined us during recruitment week. We are so thankful for their dedication to our organization and the support and guidance they continue to provide for our chapter. On Bid Day, we happily welcomed 142 angels in to our sisterhood! We celebrated in the stadium with the New Members and their families before they headed off on their New Member class retreat. This year, New Member Coordinator Sabrina Cisneros '14 planned a trip to the Muscle Shoals Marriott Resort. The New Members and Pod (small groups) Leaders were able to spend the weekend relaxing by the pool getting to know each other, and beginning to learn what it means to be one of our sisters. The spring 2016 semester was a fantastic one for Alabama Beta. In March, we were named one of only 15 Phi level chapters for the 2015 year. We are so honored to be recognized by the Fraternity for our achievement in the areas of membership, academics, philanthropy, finances, housing, campus involvement and member development. Ten members of the senior class were initiated in to Order of Omega in April, including Lacey Cencula '13, who is now serving as Order of Omega's president. Caroline Babbin '15 was also recognized by Order of Omega as Most Outstanding Freshman. We are so proud of all of our sisters! Thank you to our alumnae, advisors and the University of Alabama for continuing to support our chapter each year. We hope that we can continue to count on your support as our chapter and its new facilities continue to grow. We would love to extend an invitation to any alumna or friend of the chapter to come visit us anytime! Alabama Beta is excited for a great year and to cheer on the Tide to another winning season.
