Kappa Alpha Chapter of Kappa Delta at Florida State University • Fall 2016 Always Think of KD Kappa Alpha Grows Stronger as Alumnae and Undergraduates Look to the Future T oday's Kappa Alpha Chapter is not the same as the Chapter of 1953 or even 1999. Sisters come and go through the Chapter House doors and trends change; however, the qualities of Kappa Delta we have all grown to love have remained constant. The tenets of our sorority are still as strong as ever: sisters continue to strive for that which is honor- able, beautiful, and highest while forming lifelong friendships within the walls of 555 West Jefferson. The Florida State campus has changed in many ways throughout our 112- year history, and with that change, Kappa Alpha has had to continually grow and change as well. Greek life at Florida State is as large as it has ever been. Sororities are consistently recruiting new member classes of 90 to 100 women, with Kappa Alpha welcoming 94 new ladies this fall, bringing the chapter to more than 300 members. As potential new members go through recruitment, the physical Chapter House can have a huge influ- ence on which chapter they end up choosing. With many older, out-of-date houses and increased chapter sizes, many sororities are finding the need to undergo massive renovations or rebuilds. The House Corporation has kept up with maintenance and space needs at the Chapter House, but knows that a long-term plan is vital to the growth and prosperity of Kappa Alpha. As mentioned in the spring newsletter, the House Corporation is working on a long-term plan to keep our beloved house modern, safe, and competitive to meet the needs of today's Chapter, and we look forward to filling you in on our plans in the near future. Pledge Classes of '89 and '90 Continue Sisterhood Through Reunions F or this group of more than 16 sisters from Kappa Alpha Chapter pledge classes '89 and '90, Labor Day weekend has taken on a life of its own. What started out more than 20 years ago (23 to be exact!) as a girls' weekend in Tampa, Florida, to celebrate the beginning of senior year at FSU has become an annual Labor Day weekend tradition, allowing these friends the opportunity to reconnect each year and renew their Kappa Delta bond. These women have supported each other through many phases in life, including launching careers, getting married (and even a few divorces), starting and growing a family, and now their oldest children are heading off to college! Through it all, this Labor Day weekend get-together has provided a time for these old friends to come together, reminisce about the good old days, make new memories, and support each other with whatever is going Reunion 2016 took these women to Indian Shores Beach, Florida.
