Undefeated Red Bluff advances By ANDRE BYIK DN Sports Editor The Red Bluff Little League 11-12 All-Star team advanced to the District 1 championship bracket unde- feated Thursday night with an 8-2 win over Foothill. Foothill got on the board first in the bottom of the sec- ond inning after a bunt from shortstop Bryce Burnett was able to bring in a runner from second. But Red Bluff countered quickly in the top of the third after it loaded up the bases and pitcher Justin Nicholls drew a walk which allowed center fielder Colton Young- blood to score. The 1-1 tie would be short-lived, however, after Foothill third baseman Lucas Brovan smacked a double off the center field wall and pitcher Ryan Cae- tano drove him in with a sin- gle to left in the bottom of RED BLUFF BASS ANGLERS the third to regain the lead.. That would be it for Foothill's offense though. After Red Bluff loaded up the bases in the top of the fourth with no outs, Foothill battled back and tallied up two outs without giving up a run. But catcher Drew Stacy hit an RBI sin- gle up the middle to tie the game at 2-2. Red Bluff got its first lead in the top of the fifth after Ian Hoskins reached third on a throw which got past Foothill's first base- man. a solo blast of his own to right. Red Bluff loaded up the bases again and Casey Moore batted in the win- ning run with a hit to center. But the fireworks weren't over yet. In the top of the sixth, with Red Bluff leading 3-2, a hit from Moore set up Tanner Tweedt's two-run homer to left. And Nicholl's followed suit with WIMBLEDON Murray becomes first British man to reach final in 74 years WIMBLEDON, Eng- land (AP) — The buzz around Centre Court gradu- ally increased while Andy Murray inched closer to ending one of the longest waits in British sports. A tennis crowd used to disappointments finally saw reason to believe, with the classic shouts of ''Come on Andy'' at Wim- bledon over the last seven years coupled with the added encouragement: ''You can do it.'' match, so obviously it meant something to me and it was very, very important. There is obviously a lot of pressure and stress around this time of year.'' And, in his fourth attempt in four years, Mur- ray finally did. Murray became the first British man since 1938 to reach the Wimbledon final by beating Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 Friday, living up to the hype and expectations at home that seemed to get bigger and bigger with every year. ''I think subconsciously at the end of the match it was obviously very emo- tional,'' Murray said. That would mean beat- ing Roger Federer in Sun- day's final, a task that might prove harder than Friday's victory. Federer is a six-time Wimbledon champion who knows bet- ter than anyone in the game how to win on Centre Court. He beat defending champion and top-ranked Novak Djokovic to reach a record-tying eighth Wim- bledon final.
