ByJulieZeeb jzeeb@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Zeeb on Twitter RED BLUFF Madelynne West, 17, of Palo Cedro took home the first place finish Friday for Team Kel- lie, coached by Kellie Ro- driguez, at the first ever Red Bluff Voice finals held during intermission of the monster trucks at the Te- hama District Fair. West wowed all three Red Bluff High School graduates judging the competition in her first appearance at au- ditions with the number "At Last," when before she fin- ished the first two words all three had pulled their blind folds off, seeking her as a member of their team. Judges included Rodri- guez, a musical theater per- formance major at the Uni- versity of Utah, Chad Bush- nell, a Red Bluff musician and Danny Muñoz, a profes- sional singer and master of ceremonies in the Los An- geles area. While 26 signed up for auditions there were 25 who showed up to the first night of competition on Wednes- day, when each judge se- lected two contestants for their team, making a to- tal of six who moved ahead to the knockout round on Thursday. West competed against fellow finalists Ashtin Lope- man, 16, of Red Bluff and Emily Farias, 18, of Corning on Friday. They had gone against their fellow team- mates and semi-finalists, in- cluding Kathleen Stephens, 31, of Red Bluff, Kristlynn Bishop, 13, of Anderson and Shelby Brooks, 20. Polls opened up Friday afternoon with all three fi- nalists performing a song at the monster truck intermis- sion before asking the au- dience to join their friends, family and acquaintances in voting in an on-line poll to pick a winner. Team Kellie had 46 per- cent of the votes with 296 in their favor while Team Chad took second with 202 votes for 32 percent and Team Danny took third with 22 percent of the votes with 140. A total of 638 votes were cast.
