Policelogs Bakers in Red Bluff were dealt a hard blow by the sealer of weights and mea- sures Saturday when the official notified the various shops in the city that here- after their five-cent loaves of bread must weight 12 ounces. The bakers will thereby suffer a loss of at least two ounces, as they had been weighing in the dough, at 12 ounces, the difference being the process of bak- ing. Naturally the loaves have been smaller some- what then usual, made necessary on account of the excessive cost of flour. One of the bakers stated Saturday that he was now paying two dollars a bar- rel more for his flower than he formerly had to pay, and that in carload lots. With the enforcement of the regulations, all the profit is taken out of the industry, particularly the bread making, and their only alternative is to raise the price, such as has been done in some of the cities over the country. So far, the local bak- ers have maintained their regular prices for bakery goods, and will continue to do so, unless there is still another advance in flour. What they lose on bread they hope to make up in pastry and other baking. —Sept.27,1916 10 0 YE AR S AG O. ..
