Mammography Certificate Program Slated at FTCC by MICHELLE WALDEN regulate the quality of care in mammography and requires mammography facilities to meet uniform standards of quality. These standards include strict guidelines on training for mammographers. Fayetteville Technical Community College will offer a Mammography Certifi cate Program starting in Spring 2013. Prospective students must be American Registry of Radiologic Technologists registered radiographers in good standing. Graduates will receive a Certifi cate in Mammography, meet MQSA initial-training requirements for mammography and may be eligible to apply to take the ARRT post-primary certifi cation in mammography. The Mammography Quality Standards Act was enacted by Congress to Many radiographers have the desire to specialize in mammography but are unable to attend school full time because of work schedules. Offering a portion of the program online allows access for working radiographers who would have scheduling confl icts in the traditional setting. There will be two options for the clinical education courses: traditional The Mammography Program will be one semester in length. The didactic portion of the program will be offered completely online, and the clinical component will be face-to-face for 15 hours per week. and non-traditional. For the traditional option, the clinical-education site will be set up by the college. For the non-traditional option, the student will secure his or her own clinical-education site. The non-traditional option will allow working radiographers to complete their clinical requirements at their place of employment. FTCC is offering a program allowing radiographer to specialize in mam- mography. for new modalities. MAM 109 Mammography Capstone will be available as a registry review course for mammographers preparing for the ARRT post- primary certifi cation in mammography. The courses are MAM 101 Mammographic Procedures and Image Analysis, MAM 102 Mammographic Instrumentation and Quality Assurance, MAM 103 Digital Mammography, MAM 105 Mammography Clinical Education and MAM 109 Mammography Capstone. Course work includes clinical rotations at mammography facilities, breast anatomy/physiology, patient preparation/ education, mammographic procedures, interventional procedures, image analysis, mammographic instrumentation, physics, quality control and quality assurance.
