Red Bluff put three runs on the board quickly with a 2-run homer from Tanner Tweedt in the first inning, and a couple of errant throws allowed Ian Hoskins to score from first base. By ANDRE BYIK DN Sports Editor The Red Bluff Little League But the real damage came in the second. Red Bluff's Casey Moore start- ed with a solo bomb off the score- board over the center-field wall, and infield hits from Colton Youngblood and catcher Drew Stacy set up a scoring opportunity for pitcher Justin Nicholls, who hit an RBI double to center. Hoskins continued the rally with an RBI single up the middle, which set up a line drive 3-run homer to left from Koleby Potter to give Red Bluff a 9-0 lead. Central Tehama immediately countered with a solo home run to left, but couldn't get much going after that. Nicholl's struck out the next three batters. District 1 champions 3 Giants All-Star starters NEW YORK (AP) — Josh Hamilton is set to lead a Texas parade to the All-Star game. Now, fans will decide if Chipper Jones gets one final appearance or whether it's time for teen sensation Bryce Harper. Hamilton drew a record total of more than 11 million votes, and the slugger was among seven Rangers cho- sen Sunday as All-Stars. A trio of San Francisco Giants rallied in the last week to claim spots, while three Yan- kees also made the starting lineup. Washington fastballer Stephen Strasburg and Mets knuckleballer R.A. Dickey were two of the 66 players chosen by fans, managers and big leaguers for the showcase July 10 in Kansas City. So was 20-year-old Angels rookie outfielder Mike Trout, who leads the AL in hitting at .339 and drew more than 800,000 write-in votes. Few of the races for start- ing spots were close and there seemed to be little complaining about the fans' choices. But there certainly will be campaigning this week when it comes to Jones and Harper after they were left off — for now, any- way. The NL and AL each have one spot left, with fans voting online through Thurs- day to select one of five can- didates in both leagues. Jones and Harper are two of the NL possibilities. Sandoval was picked for the NL at third base despite missing a month with a bro- ken hand and not matching the stats of David Wright. ''I'm surprised I made it,'' said Sandoval, popular for his ''Kung Fu Panda'' persona. ''He's been having a great year but the fans gave me the votes. I can't thank them enough.'' couple of years, he's heard good things about the team. "They're All-Stars," Stacy said. "So I'm sure they're good ball players." or at 1B Tuesday July 3, 2012 Red Bluff beats Central Tehama Courtesy photo Red Bluff Little League won the California District 1 9-and 10-year-old softball championship.
