Region 12's annual convention/competition was held in June at the Grand Sierra Resort. The small chorus category, consisting of 30 members or less, had the most competitors of the three categories. California HEAT brought red and gold second place medals home. After coming in third last year, the hard work paid off — extra rehearsals, coaches to come in and help, dedicated singers and a tireless loving director to bring this achievement. The group has women from the Yreka area, Redding, Red Bluff, Corning, Chico, Durham and Clear Lake singing together to represent Red Bluff. The group practices on Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. at Metteer Elementary School on Kimball Road. For information about singing or for the group to sing for you, call Anita Main at 895-0139. Usually someone who is inactive in one area of life, may be inactive in many areas and that can feel overwhelming and as though there is no reason to even try. People who are in charge of their lives are active. They do the best they can to take care of themselves and others. They are the type of Are you inactive in your life? Are your dish- es piled up so high that you started buying paper plates to make things easier? When is the last time all of your laundry was done? When is the last time you required any form of exercise from yourself? Are you the first to drop your child off at sports practice knowing it is good for her to be physically fit and you leave there to get a large soda on your way home to watch television before you return to get them? Do you see your spouse yelling at the children, demeaning them and yet say nothing? You may feel like you aren't in the right clan, club, mix of community members or that you will be rejected for trying to change. Becom- ing active will hurt for a while. It is a good hurt. It is your flesh becoming awake to all that you can be. Push past the pain of change. Become active somewhere in your life. Tell yourself you deserve to be in the game. Take back your hope. Take back your dreams. Activate your life. Faydra Rector, MA is a mental health administrator, author, public speaker, educator and life coach who lives in Red Bluff.
