4B Daily News – Friday, June 29, 2012 Education in Tehama County KEEP ON LEARNING Reeds Creek offers reading program Rhoads graduates with Master's Tara Rhoads, a Red Bluff Union High School graduate with the class of 2005, graduated with her Master's Degree in Busi- ness Administration (MBA) from California State University, Chico in May. Rhoads' parents are Cliff and Susan Rhoads of Red Bluff, grandparents Calvin and Eva Rhoads of Los Molinos, and grand- parent Delia Lister of Red Bluff. Rhoads graduated with honors from Butte Community College in May of 2008 with an Associate's Degree in Social and Behavioral Science. In May of 2011, she graduated from California State University, Chico with a Bachelor's degree in Business, option in Accounting and a minor in Man- agement. Her cumulative GPA was a 3.4. This fall Rhoads will start working for the ninth largest accounting firm in the world. She looks forward to taking and passing the CPA exam this summer and eventually continuing her career in forensic accounting. RBUHS grad wins PG&E scholarship Company (PG&E) announced that six North State students were awarded $2,500 scholar- ships toward their college educations, including Cody Yarbrough of Red Bluff. The awards are part of Courtesy photo Reeds Creek is launching its first summer reading program. Research shows that students who read as few as six books over the summer are more likely to maintain the level of reading they achieved during the school year. The school would like to encourage its families to participate in the Tehama County Library's summer reading program "A Monstrous Event." Reeds Creek will be partnering with the library to make the Accelerated Reading program possible at the library this summer. Students who bring their reading logs and AR test printouts to school in August will be eligible for surprise treats and a drawing for all kinds of great prizes. Have a "Monstrous" summer adventure at the Tehama County Library. PG&E's $1 million Bright Minds Scholarship Program, which helps cover higher edu- cation expenses for selected high school seniors, commu- nity college and "non-tradi- tional" students. Tehama, Shasta, Plumas and Siskiyou counties were among more than 8,000 appli- cants in PG&E's northern and central California service area. Yarbrough is a sophomore studying engineering at Azusa Pacific University, in Azusa. Scholarship Manage- ment Services served as PG&E's facilitator for its Bright Minds Scholarship Program and selected the scholarship recipients. In addition to the 90 pro- gram finalists, 10 students were awarded full-ride schol- arships of up to $30,000 per year to complete their college degrees. High school students will receive renewable full- ride scholarships of up to $30,000 for five years. "Non- traditional" students currently attending post-secondary schools will receive up to $30,000 per year until a cer- tificate, associate's degree or bachelor's degree is earned.
