The three people involved in the incident, who were all ar- rested on previous felony war- rants, were Travis Byrd, 31, charged with felony vehicle pur- suit as the driver of the vehi- cle and Carlos Tejeda, 23, both of Anderson and Taniesha Cole- man, 25, of Shasta Lake City. PURSUIT Threearrestedinmulti-countychase By Julie Zeeb jzeeb@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Zeeb on Twitter RED BLUFF With the 15th anni- versary of terrorist attacks that brought down the Twin Towers in New York, damaged the Pen- tagon and saw thousands of lives lost including those on Flight 93 in Pennsylvania, first respond- ers and many more Tehama County have made it a mission to hold true to the motto "never forget" that was heard in the days following the 2001 event. "I'd like to see a memorial to the day in Tehama County by the 20-year anniversary," said Greg Latourell who helped, along with his wife Vickie, or- ganize the first event on the fifth anniversary and has been mas- ter of ceremonies at many events since. This year's event is scheduled for 8 a.m. Sunday at the flagpole in front of the Tehama County Courthouse. Vickie created a wreath that has been at every ceremony since with a rose for every year that had passed and each year rearranged them to include an additional rose. This year, for the first time, there will be a live flower wreath that was created by Westside Flowers and Gifts especially for the 15th anniver- sary, Greg said. "When the fifth anniversary came, we realized the commu- nity didn't have anything they were doing to remember Sept. 11 so with the Tehama County Young Marines, which my son was a part of, we held a simple ceremony of raising the flag and laying a wreath," Greg Latourell said. "Every year, we have con- tinued with more and more community groups becoming a part of it." Through the years, the Te- hama County Young Marines and Marine Corps League's Red Bluff detachment have assisted in organizing the event and the Tehama County Sheriff's De- partment and California High- way Patrol Explorers have be- come a part of the event along with local law enforcement. Due in part to the wave of anti-po- lice sentiments, local law en- forcement have been asked to be a part of the centerpiece of the event, Greg Latourell said. The public is invited to come out earlier than the 8 a.m. cer- emony. Many local entertainers such as Chad Bushnell and Mat- thew Songmaker will be per- forming prior to the event start- ing about 7:45 a.m. Carla Fultz will perform. Since the anniver- sary falls on Sunday, organizers have pushed the start time back to 8 a.m. Tehama County Young Ma- rines and Explorers will escort the flag to the pole where local police and fire representatives will raise it, lowering it to half mast while the California Heat sings the national anthem. The Marine Corps League will per- form a gun salute and taps will be played. The ceremony will conclude with the California Heat singing patriotic songs.
