A lwAy s Anchored Sigma Chapter of Delta gamma * NorthweSterN UNiverSity fa l l 2 0 1 6 house corporation Makes chapter house Updates alumnae Excited for future of Sigma Chapter T his summer, two Sigma house corporation members traveled to Orlando for Convention! Convention was informative and engaging—sisters made new friends and greeted old ones. Imagine was the theme, and that extends to Sigma as well. The house corporation has stayed busy maintaining and updating the chapter house, including new lighting throughout the first floor, hallways, and stairwells, bringing cost savings, energy efficiency, value, and of course, beauty. With safety always being a priority, the back door is also being replaced, as well as repairs of aging pipes and the fire alarm system. We are in the process of finalizing bids for a complete kitchen renovation, including the pantry and storage areas. This will make the kitchen more functional and efficient, complementing the dining room renovation completed a few years ago. Next summer, to make the kitchen more functional and efficient, we will begin kitchen renovations with infrastructure in the areas of hood exhaust, and will get bids for complete remodeling as well. We are also finalizing bids to expand the chapter house to become ADA compliant; we hope to begin this work within the next two years. Our previous house board, led by then President Pamela Randolph Bauer, Sigma 1974, NU, was responsible for our porch ramp, which has been seamlessly integrated into the structure of the building. The ramp, completed in 2013, won a historic preservation award from the city of Evanston for "sensitive addition and alteration." We look forward to working with the architect to finalize rooms and movement inside the chapter house. Please take the opportunity to give to our building fund by reading the donation information in this newsletter. As always, your house corporation continues to encourage our active sisters to remember that Sigma is their home during and after their time at Northwestern. We maintain the physical property and look toward the future as we are the caretakers for the next generation. We all have fond memories of our time in Delta Gamma, and I really loved hearing from many of you who wrote to tell me you enjoyed hearing from Sigma house corporation and the chapter. Stop by the chapter house whenever you are in Evanston—you will always find a sister to greet you! Please continue to communicate, pass the newsletter along, and always continue to "Do Good." The original limestone terrace was redesigned to include an ADA accessible entry with a wheelchair ramp from the Quadrangle, located in an Evanston historic landmark space. The new ramp, stairs, and terrace were constructed with smooth dolomite stone paving and stairs, brick paved ramp, and limestone facing. Original limestone was reused and salvaged for reuse on future campus projects. The Delta Gamma house was designed in 1926 by architect James Gamble Rogers.
