Dear Gamma Kappa Brothers: It was a pleasure and privilege for me to serve as academic adviser to the membership of Lambda Chi Alpha for three years. I am proud of the Fraternity and for what it is accomplishing both for its members and for the campus and local communities. The Fraternity has been blessed over the past few years with outstanding leadership, and it has become a very strong chapter since it was re-chartered in 2004. It was during that first year in 2004 that I was inducted as an honorary member, and I am very proud of that. The chapter can point to a number of notable achievements. As academic adviser, I have been particularly pleased with its strong academics record. For the three years that I served as adviser, the chapter's grades were above the all-men's GPA. More recently, in the fall of 2013, the group was fourth in average fraternity GPA, and, in the spring of 2013, it was third. The chapter also stands in the top tier of fraternities in participation and success in sports, Greek Week, and Homecoming. I have had the pleasure to meet with many members of the Fraternity that fill important leadership roles in campus organizations and the community. I am particularly proud of the Chapter's sustained contributions to local charities. I am writing this letter to support an effort that is very much needed if the chapter is to continue to make progress and attract the very high caliber membership that now characterizes the chapter. After considerable study, the Housing Corporation purchased the current property in the summer of 2007. The site is wonderful, but the house badly needs repairs. Indeed, during the 1980s, while I served as Interim Dean of the Graduate School, we had a social science research unit located in this same house, and, even then, there were continuing needs related to repairs and maintenance of the structure and its heating and plumbing systems. Needless to say, with another 30 years, these challenges have reached the point where an aggressive approach to resolve them is very much needed. I am very pleased that such an approach is now being taken. The Alumni Board has approved a major capital campaign to raise funds to build a new chapter house in the near future—and the sooner the better. This effort is being very ably led by The Housing Corporation Board. It is my hope that as alumni you will support this critically important effort. During my tenure as Chancellor, I watched with admiration and considerable interest as the alumni of other fraternities on campus support efforts to significantly improve their houses. These improvements do much to enhance and make safer the living environment in which many of our students learn and grow to take leadership positions in the world of which we are all a part. Yours in ZAX, Richard L. Wallace Chancellor Emeritus Gamma Kappa 1473
