Accommodating a Growing Chapter S ince 2000, the sizes of new member classes have nearly doubled at Florida State and the Kappa Alpha Chapter now exceeds 300 members. Based on this significant growth, in 2011 the Kappa Alpha Housing Corporation was faced with the immediate and pressing need for more space to accommodate our sisterhood. It was decided that expanding the dining room over the old terrace would allow us to capture much-needed additional space. Additionally, after discussions with a contractor and architect, we learned that by doing this, the entire Chapter House would be required to be brought up to the current city code. Considering the rapid growth of the Chapter, coupled with the Housing Corporation's ability to secure a loan for the project, the alumnae leadership elected to move forward with this expansion and code upgrades immediately. We are grateful for the 84 sisters who generously responded to the call and helped us complete the first phase of our vision for the future. • Increasing dining room seating from 80 to 200. • Adding seven bedrooms and bathrooms to increase capacity by 14. • Adding a council meeting room, kitchenette, and new gated terrace. • Enlarging the housemother's suite. • Upgrading the sprinkler system, security cameras, and internet. • Adding an elevator and other mandatory ADA updates. e completed project included:
