AlwAys Anchored PAge 2 WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU! W ith the re-establishment of Alpha Omega chapter of Delta Gamma set for the fall of 2016, your sisters are now in need of your help! In recent years, the most successful restarts had strong alumnae support. However, in getting started, the most common question is "how can I help?" 1. Update contact information. You are the sorority's best resource in collecting accurate contact information for Alpha Omega alumnae—including yourself! The biographical update will help us better serve you. If you know of any sisters who have not returned it, encourage them to reconnect with us! 2. Identify potential members. Do you have a relative or family friend at Arkansas who wants to be a DG? Do you know of any women, scholars, leaders, and athletes attending or soon to attend Arkansas? Are you interested in sponsoring potential new members? Sponsor forms and recommendations can be sent via e-mail to dgalphaomega2016@deltagamma.org or mailed to Delta Gamma Executive Offices, Attention: Alpha Omega Sponsorship, fall 2016, 3250 Riverside Drive, Columbus, Ohio 43221. 3. Communicate with other alumnae. Reach out to the members of Alpha Omega during your college years with an e-mail, phone call, or letter. Do they know about the return of the chapter? Do they want to get involved or have questions that need to be answered? Help us spread accurate information and generate excitement. If you are interested in getting involved or helping in any of the forms listed above, please e-mail Lorie Holt, Epsilon '07 at lorie@deltagamma.org. Keeping Hope Afloat Anne Hart Allen '60 Rallies Alumnae F or Anne Hart Allen '60, hope anchors the soul. It's her life motto, her rally call. And for the re-establishment of Alpha Omega, Anne and her sisters are keeping hope afloat. Together, they are helping the sisterhood get connected with alumnae from all over the state and neighboring states to get excited about the return of Delta Gamma to the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. "Alpha Omega has such a rich and notable history at UAF, and we want future Delta Gammas to add much to those memorable chronicles," Anne says. "Several of us are committed to continue work for this re-establishment because our collective favorite Delta Gamma memories inspire our hope for future Razorback Delta Gammas!" Keeping with her mottos "keep hope afloat" and "refuse to sink," Anne uses these rally calls to inspire others to follow suit. Alumnae connectedness is critical from all perspectives, she says. It is paramount for the new members to see alumnae fulfilling their lifelong responsibilities of remaining actively connected with the collegiate members and alumnae chapters and being enthusiastically committed to Delta Gamma. "There was a period of years when we were struggling to keep our Alpha Omega and local DG alumnae sisterhood connected with a common bond and purpose," she says. "We worked to re-establish connections and communications, not only with Alpha Omegas and our Delta Gamma sisterhood, but also with friends at UAF. While sharing communications among ourselves, someone offered that we close with 'refuse to sink.' Shortly thereafter, someone else added another uplifting thought, 'keep hope afloat.' From then on, when we all shared positive thoughts and news, we closed with our version of 'Do Good' with 'refuse to sink; keep hope afloat!' For us, hope anchors the soul. It all finally came together; our dream, the re-establishing of Alpha Omega, is coming true because we are committed to keeping hope afloat." Re-establishing Alpha Omega is no easy task. Anne encourages alumnae to think about their personal experiences with the chapter and how they can inspire. "I want to enable other young women to experience the same meaningful involvement and fulfillment that I have experienced, and am experiencing, within our Delta Gamma sisterhood," she says. "I would sit down with someone who is considering helping with this effort and reminisce about how significant our collegiate years were and how our ongoing alumnae experiences can be, and are, so rewarding. Then, I would ask her to reiterate with me that Delta Gamma is for hope, for strength, for life." Anne lives in Little Rock with her husband, Charles. They have three grown children, Chuck, Jonathan, and Mandy. She is twice retired as a university professor in the graduate teacher education department. She enjoys working with and being involved with the Greater Little Rock DG, Northwest Arkansas, and the Fort Smith collegiate and alumnae chapters. Anne is active in her church, serves as a board member for Vera Lloyd Presbyterian Family Services throughout Arkansas, works with several UAF advisory groups, and helps selected civic and community projects. She is excited for the return of Alpha Omega and the future of Delta Gamma at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. "I am, and many others of our Alpha Omega and DG sisters are, so grateful for the support and encouragement of countless DG sisters and UAF friends," she says. "That and providence and persistence enabled the realization of our dreams!"
