"It's just a blessing to be here and be part of everything." Rodeo action at Stam- pede Park starts on Friday with timed-event slack at 9 a.m. The first performance of the Cody Stampede be- gins Friday night at 8 p.m. More information is also available at www.codys- tampederodeo.com or co- dystampederodeo on Face- book. Following are the results from the Cody/Yellowstone Xtreme Bulls: 1, Garrett Tribble, Bristow, Okla., 85 points on Summit Pro Rodeo's Smokin' Dragon, $5,414. 2, (tie) Brett Stall, Detroit Lakes, Minn., and Dalan Duncan, Ballard, Utah, 84.5, $3,610. 4, Sage Steele Kimzey, Strong City, Okla., 83.5, $1,985. 5, (tie) Joe Frost, Randlett, Utah and Reid Barker, Comfort, Texas, 83, $1,083. 7, Cole Melancon, Liberty, Texas, 81.5, $722. 8, Clayton Sav- age, Yoder, Wyo., 80.5, $541. Bulls FROM PAGE 1 before it was suspended be- cause of showers in the eve- ning. Djokovic, owner of a 30-match Grand Slam win- ning streak that includes the past four major titles, allowed Querrey to seize the first two sets 7-6 (6), 6-1 during their 72 min- utes of action. Given the way things were going for the No. 1-seeded Djokovic, he had to be thrilled that the match was halted, giv- ing him a night to rest and regroup. Only one man managed to move his way into the fourth round: Roger Fe- derer. He got to play in the main stadium, with the roof overhead, and easily beat Britain's Daniel Ev- ans 6-4, 6-2, 6-2. Four other third-round men's matches were sus- pended in progress. Worst of all, from a scheduling standpoint, one second- round men's match is still not finished, with No. 24 Alexander Zverev locked in a fifth set against Mikhail Youzhny. Andthreesecond- round women's matches are also pending. That is why officials de- cided to scrap the tradi- tional rest day on the first Sunday, something that was done only in 1991, 1997 and 2004. "I might take a day off tomorrow, just because I can," the 34-year-old Fe- derer said with a smile. "Yeah, I can. I'm sorry, I can. I have to take them when I can. I'm an old guy." Among the other win- ners Friday was 2009 U.S. Open champion Juan Mar- tin del Potro, who has had three operations on his left wrist since he last partic- ipated at Wimbledon in 2014. He eliminated fourth- seeded Stan Wawrinka, a two-time major champion, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (2), 6-3 to reach the third round. "My hands (are) shak- ing," del Potro said af- ter being regaled with a lengthy ovation at Centre Court. "It's a great sensa- tion for me, because I'm playing tennis again — and I feel alive." Tennis FROM PAGE 1 what we're doing here," Van Garderen said on Fri- day. "We always say that we're soldiers going to war and then you see the real soldiers and you're like, 'OK, maybe this is just bike racing."' Teams were driven into the official team presenta- tion in Sainte-Mere-Eglise on WWII-era jeeps and trucks on Thursday. "I like the way organiz- ers and the local people here have put together the appropriate historical re- minders, that teams have been accompanied on the jeeps by the local people in costumes," said Brian Cookson, the British pres- ident of the International Cycling Union. A legacy of the war was freedom, underlined by the diversity of the Tour teams. Van Garderen, who was in third place when he had to abandon last year's Tour in tears due to illness four stages from the end, shares the BMC leadership with Australian standout Richie Porte. They are backed by riders from Germany, It- aly, France, Switzerland, and Belgium. "We're such an inter- national team," Van Gar- deren said. "It shows that the world has come a long way." The favorites for overall victory in the three-week race are two-time winner Chris Froome of Britain, two-time runner-up Nairo Quintana of Colombia, and two-time champion Alberto Contador of Spain. After Saturday's stage, a group of American, Brit- ish, Canadian, French, and German riders will lay white roses in front of Utah Beach's Peace Monu- ment to commemorate the Allied landings. "We will celebrate cy- cling as a peace symbol," Tour director Christian Prudhomme said. "The only thing that prevented the Tour de France tak- ing place was world war, twice." Started in 1903, the Tour is beginning its 103rd edi- tion. The only years it wasn't held came from 1915-18 and 1940-46. French rider Thomas Voeckler, whose grandfa- ther fought during WWII, volunteered to take part in the ceremony, along with German sprinting stand- out Andre Greipel and Van Garderen. Amael Moinard, a French member of BMC, was born in Cherbourg and knows all about D-Day. "Growing up here, I've been into it from an early age because all our school trips were related to D-Day commemorations: Utah Beach, the Sainte-Mere- Eglise museum, the Caen memorial," Moinard said. "Then the 50th D-Day an- niversary was something big for me, with all the presidents from countries across the world coming to Normandy. It's nice to start here." Like the paratroopers before him, Moinard has a deep understanding of the winds in La Manche, as this area of Normandy is called. The way he sees it, the seven kilometers (four miles) of exposed road along the coast with 30 kilometers to go in the opening stage will evoke more fear about the wind — which has the potential to split the peloton in two — than the wind itself. "As soon as you see the sea on the map each rider will say, 'It's going to be windy, tricky,"' Moinard ex- plained. "It's going to make everybody nervous, and for sure a crash will happen. So all of the leaders and sprinters will want to be in the front." Cycling FROM PAGE 1 Biffle bumped Joe Gibbs Racing teammates Carl Edwards and Kyle Busch from the top of the lead- erboard. Edwards' lap of 192.748 was good enough for second, while Busch dropped to third with a lap at 192.336. Joe Gibbs Racing had to scramble to ready Busch's backup car for qualifying after Busch destroyed his Toyota during a crash in Friday morning's practice session. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. qualified fourth to give Roush two drivers in the top four. "It is a good day for the Roush Fenway Fords," Stenhouse said. "The guys have been bringing really good cars to the speed- ways, really fast cars. It is really cool that Greg got it for our organization. It shows we are putting a lot of hard work in and it is starting to pay off at every race track." Brad Keselowski qual- ified fifth in a Team Pen- ske Ford, while teammate Joey Logano was 11th and Ryan Blaney was 12th for The Wood Brothers. Roush driver Trevor Bayne was 13th and Aric Almirola 14th for Richard Petty Mo- torsports. All the Fords use engines built by Yates. "I am really happy to see a Ford on the pole with Greg Biffle and I think we will be ready to race," Ke- selowski said. "It makes you feel really good to see all those Ford teammates up there in the front of the field." The Ford drivers will have to work together to fend off the Toyota brigade that ganged up on the field to win the Daytona 500. JGR's four drivers worked with Martin Truex Jr. to form a juggernaut that led to a Denny Hamlin win as Toyota drivers took four of the top five spots. Edwards expected a sim- ilar strategy on Saturday night. "That worked really well, I don't know that it will ever work that well again," Edwards said. "I assume we'll just try to do the same thing which was basically work together if we can and I watched a little bit of the race the other day and ev- erything just worked out perfectly. If we can do that again, it would be great. We really have a good group of cars and we have a great group of teammates so that would be good." Austin Dillon, who was involved in a horrible acci- dent on the last lap of this race last year in which his car went airborne into the fence, qualified sixth as the fastest Chevrolet. Jimmie Johnson was seventh and the only Hen- drick Motorsports driver to advance to the second round of qualifying. Hen- drick drivers had won six consecutive poles on re- strictor plate tracks dating to the 2015 Daytona 500. Hamlin was ninth and Kurt Busch 10th. Truex, who lost in a photo finish to Hamlin in the 500, was 15th. Defend- ing race winner Dale Earn- hardt Jr. was 16th.
