3 SIGMA CHI T he RPI Greek system provides awards based upon a college organization rating system called 5-Star. Sean Waclawik '18, initiated this past fall, won the New Member of the Year award. Along with Sean's award, the chapter won the Communiversity and Housing award; the Fire, Life, and Environmental Safety award; and the Personal Development and Schol- arship award. Finally, the Delta Psi Chapter was also awarded the 2016 President's Cup, which is given to the top fraternity on campus! We are so excited that all of our hard work this past year has paid off and that we have shown that Sigma Chi is not just a place of friendship, justice, and learning, but of leadership, service, and excellence. Congratulations to all! P inewood Educational Foundation had a successful spring semester and hosted two more educational courses. Our first web-delivered course covered project manage- ment fundamentals. Bob Shortle '74 and Matt Miller '77, with onsite support by Scholarship Chairman Aidan Gorby '19, delivered this course to the undergraduates. We also delivered our first major on-campus seminar this semester with Don Bell (our former next-door neighbor) about his new book, Money Life$avers: What Teens Need to Know About Money. This course in financial management for young people drew a crowd of 50-plus to the biotech building audi- torium on campus. Both were well received and were great prototypes of how we can deliver our content more broadly in the future. The first course for the fall 2016 semester will cover interviewing skills. This session will be led by Dennis Powers '63 on Saturday, Septem- ber 17, at Pinewoods Avenue. Don Bell, author of Money Life$avers, delivered a presentation regarding financial management. because it corresponds to the alumni recruitment dinner and we need at least eight alumni volun- teers to participate in the mock interviews. Why not come out and have fun participating in both? If interested in volunteering, please contact me. We are nearing the end of the pledge donation period for the initial donors to the Building Our Bridge to Excellence capital campaign that made the new chapter house possible. There are still some stragglers out there who we encourage to settle up as soon as possible. We continue to have great success in getting new brothers to also commit to pledges that they begin paying after graduation and getting a job. They are to be commended for their efforts to help build the bridge for those who come after them! Finally, PEF is supporting the drive to get fiber optic cable to the Pawling Avenue area houses. Details are still being worked out, but the foun- dation has offered assistance in fundraising to help make this a reality for all those living out in the Pawling area.
