Any foodie who travels on their stomach and has a summer vacation in their future would do well to check out Travel Channel's long-running series "Food Paradise." Indeed, the hourlong series that is now in its eighth season on Sunday nights this summer, takes viewers around the country to out-of-the-way restaurants, cafes and dives that only the locals know about to check out some of the most tasty and decadent meals out there. Want a recommendation for pizza in Chicago? "Food Paradise" has a few suggestions. Deli in New York? They have that covered, too? Beignets in New Orleans? Uh huh. The suggestions for eateries visited on "Food Paradise" come from, among other sources, average viewers, indicates Courtney White, Travel Channel's senior vice president of programming,. "The upside about being such a powerful brand as Travel Channel is, is that we get a huge response from our viewers," she explains. "Our digital partners are always feeding us input from viewers and our digital users. Our crews are all over the United States and all over the world, so we have people who are on the crew who live in these towns that we're going to, saying, 'This isn't in the tour book but this is the best place for a steak,' or, 'If you want cooking that feels like Grandma's, go here.' "We really hit the ground," she continues, "so it's really from the horse's mouth because part of our job at Travel Channel is not just to pull from obvious sources but to really dive deeper. And so since we have such a passionate fan base of this show and the network in general, we're able to tap into a lot of sources and have real boots on the ground since this is a show that's shot all over the countr y and even internationally." Sunday's episode, titled "Steak-stravaganza," goes around the country to sample some varied steak-dining experiences, such as a traditional old-school steakhouse at Circus Circus hotel in Las Vegas, chicken-fried steak in Kansas City, a Western- style saloon in California, and a Miami steak joint where you can chow down in a bathing suit on a rib-eye with spicy Chimichurri sauce. "That's what we're doing with this series at large, which is what are the kinds of meals that tourists and visitors and travelers would want to indulge in in a city that they're spending time in,?" White says. "And steak is definitely far and away one of those meals that people save up for, indulge in and really want to try when they're in somewhere new. So viewers have told us that and so we're responding with this episode that we're really excited about and we think meets the demand of our viewers for, 'Where can I get the next great steak?'
