Up & Coming Weekly talked to this new band recently. UCW: Give us a brief history lesson on the band. When and where did you get started? SC: They have all been playing around with rap since the late 90's and early 2000's. In September 2009 they started taking it seri- ously when they met up with their manager Kanada "Izinice" Legette. UCW: How did the band get its name? SC: The members of the band grew up on Sanchez Drive where everyone congregated on a daily basis. They started calling the street Sanchez City. So when they became serious about their music, and being influenced by an outside member purchasing the rights to KNO`2 which they were calling themselves, they held on to the name Sanchez City. UCW: How would you define your music? SC: Our music is Down South Hip Hop with New York lyricism. UCW: Who are your favorite bands/influences on your music? SC: Sanchez City draws influences from the best that ever did it, 2 Pac, Jay- Z, Lil Wayne, Biggie, Outkast, and Eminem. UCW: Do you write your own music and where does that inspiration come from? SC: Every verse is written by the members to include the choruses and we draw from life experiences and experiences of the elders who raised us. UCW: What are your hopes/goals for the future of your band? SC: Our mission is to be the flagship group for our independent record label to become a major label. We want to utilize our musical influence in a way that brings growth and economical freedom to our community and culture. UCW: Where do you see the band five years, 10 years from now? SC: In five years from now Sanchez City will have utilized its success in the music industry to branch off into clothing lines, restaurants and low income housing business ventures. UCW: Where can Fayetteville music lovers check you in the near future? SC: You can check us out always on www.myspace.com/ sanchezcity and live at The Ville on Owen Drive and downtown Hay street at Bentleys Nightclub.
