By Margaret Baum Daily News correspondent SACRAMENTO Closing argu- ments have begun in the Quentin Bealer murder trial and the case is expected to be handed over to the jury Thursday. Bealer is charged with homi- cide in the strangling death of a 14-year-old Red Bluff girl mur- dered in 2013. Bealer is accused of murdering Marysa Nichols, whose body was found half a mile behind Red Bluff High School Feb. 28, 2013. During closing arguments, Deputy District Attorney Donna Daly said the evidence has shown that Bealer committed first de- gree murder of Nichols. According to Daly, it took sev- eral minutes for Bealer to stran- gle Nichols. "The tank top was wrapped so tightly around her neck, it was wrapped around her neck not just once but twice," Daly said. "She fought the strangulation as can be seen by a mark found on her cheek. The defendant could have stopped at any time and pre- vented her death, but he chose not to, he chose to kill her." Daly ran through a timeline of Bealer's movements the morning Marysa went missing. "The defendant spent a consid- erable amount of time figuring out how he was going to cover up this murder," Daly said. Daly reminded the jury that Bealer's DNA was found on the inside of the tank top. "The evidence is clear," Daly said. She explained that when Marysa was found, one of her bra straps was pulled down. "That doesn't happen on ac- cident," Daly said. "A bra strap doesn't fall down just in taking off a sweatshirt." Daly noted that Marysa was last seen alive walking a few min- utes behind Bealer. Prior to closing arguments, Ricky Nichols, Marysa's biolog- ical father, once again testified BEALER TRIAL Closingargumentsunderway Ca se e xp ec ted t o g o t o j ur y T hu rs da y Have a great day, Nancy Minges.
