"A lways think of K∆ when you hear this melody." How many of us can still hum that tune? From recruitment to Prefs to wedding receptions, we've all sung this song. "Dream tonight of Kappa Delta, we will dream of you." When our day at Florida State University are ended, we all leave K∆ with the dream of keeping our sisterhood close to our hearts. Unfortunately, we quickly find that many new interests— careers, families, and civic activities—can create valid diversions. The day-to-day activities of life take over and, before long, we fall out of touch and begin to wonder what happened to our sisters and what is happening at 555 West Jefferson. Without a solid alumnae relations program in place, our members lack the means for staying connected to the sorority. Let's Stay Connected With this in mind, our new annual alumnae relations program is designed to help our members stay in touch and to cultivate awareness and involvement in Kappa Alpha. There are several elements that are key to the program's success. We will mail two newsletters each year containing alumnae news, information on upcoming events, reports on various Chapter activities, and current lists of undergraduates and alumnae. Once a year, we will send out a biographical update that allows alumnae to update the information we have on record. In fact, this is the insert inside your newsletter! We ask that you review your contact information, make any necessary changes, write a quick note about what's going on in your life, and send back to us. Altogether, the updates are a vital tool in maintaining our records and our ties with one another. House Corporation Taking Care of Chapter House Over the last few years, the Chapter has grown to nearly 300 members. The House Corporation has worked diligently to respond to the increasing demands of a larger membership than the Chapter you once knew. Recently, the House Corporation Board made the decision to enclose the "L" wing of the Chapter House, allowing us Kappa Alpha Launches Alumnae Relations Program (Continued on page 2) Kappa Alpha Chapter of Kappa Delta at Florida State University • Spring 2016 Always Think of KD The newly elected council in November as we started our first semester leading the Chapter! Terri Davis Marshall '76 Thankful for Kappa Delta Experience W hen Terri Davis Marshall '76 came to college, she was not prepared to go through recruitment and join a sorority. Her parents did not attend college and she was not familiar with Greek life, but Terri decided to go through the process with the other women in her dorm. As soon as she visited Kappa Delta, she knew she wanted to be a part of it. "After visiting K∆ for the first time, I was immediately drawn to a couple of the sisters who made me feel like I was the best and special to the core. I never found any other house could compete after that first visit," Terri says. "Any K∆ sister knows the story from here as to why we would stay part of the sisterhood." During college, Terri was proud to call herself a Kappa Delta, and the Chapter had a strong reputation on campus. Being a member of a respected organization allowed her to become a confident woman and live up to the standards of Kappa Alpha Chapter. "I've always wanted people to feel good by having known me," Terri says. "I know that the K∆ sisterhood has always helped me stay focused on that course. I could learn, love, take risks, fail, and succeed, all with the safety of knowing I always had the support of the K∆ sisterhood." Terri worked for Colgate-Palmolive as a sales representative for three years after graduation before switching to CIGNA Heathplan and helping to start the first company for Managed Care. During this time, she was recruited by State Farm to open her own agency, and Terri opened (Continued on page 2) KD
