2 Delta Kappa Epsilon CHAPTER HIGHLIGHTS UndergradUates Prove themselves as CamPUs leaders I hope all is well. As this semester comes to a close, the Psi Chapter of Delta Kappa Epsilon continues to be one of the leading organizations on campus. Following the tremendous accomplishments of last year, we continue to lead. Dr. Tim Hebson, Dean of Students, said, "Every other fraternity on campus strives to be like the DKEs." With that in mind, here are a few highlights this past school year: Order of Omega is a leadership honor society that recognizes juniors and seniors who have exemplified high standards in the areas of scholarship, leadership, and involvement within their respective organization and within the fraternity or sorority, campus, and local community. Last year, DKE contributed four Order of Omega members: Jeffery Kintz '16, Stephen Keller '16, Reid Shearer '16, and Frank Schottgen '16. This year, an amazing nine new DKEs were selected to be part of this outstanding society: Grant Becker '17, Bobby Cope '17, Hartson Harmon '17, Will Moor '17, Hunter Morrissette '17, Richard Pipkins '17, Brian Stringer '17, Reynolds Thompson '17, and Larry Wink '17. Outback University, produced by Outback America, is a retreat for college students to evaluate the true meaning of life as God intended. DKE boasted an impressive 19 brothers who attended the retreat. This was the most members out of any fraternity! We would like to congratulate Sellers Boudreau '16 on getting into UAB medical school. He has worked very hard the past four years to reach his goal. This is a tremendous accomplishment, and we wish him the best in the years to come. We would like to acknowledge Austin Parrish '16, who has been part of Capstone Men and Women for two years. As most of you know, The Capstone Men and Women are a group of students selected to serve as official ambassadors of the University of Alabama. There is a rigorous application and interview process that takes many weeks and much preparation. Only a chosen few are selected by the university. At the Capstone Men and Women banquet, Austin was awarded as the most outstanding senior. Austin has done a great job these past years serving not only as an ambassador to this university, but also an ambassador for Delta Kappa Epsilon. We are also pleased to announce and congratulate Carson Brown '18 and Winn Watson '18 on winning their campaigns for SGA Senators of the Business School. DKE has always been involved with the SGA, and Carson and Winn worked exceptionally hard throughout their campaigns, demonstrating how hard work pays off. We look forward to seeing them climb the SGA ladder in the next few years. Also this year, DKE had two rising seniors inducted into Jasons Senior Men's Honorary: Hartson Harmon '17 and Richard Pipkins '17. Honoring only 40 junior classmen every spring, Jasons was established in 1914 by Lister Hill and is the first honors society recognized on campus at Alabama. It is a male-only organization that awards membership to rising seniors across campus who have shown significant leadership and philanthropy. One of the most important aspects of Psi DKE is giving back. We participated in and donated to events that raised money for foundations such as: The Billfish Foundation, Ronald McDonald House, American Cancer Society, Be the Match, St. Jude Children's Hospital, Black Warrior River Cleanup, The Phoenix House, The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation, and the UA Suicide Awareness Walk. Psi takes great pride in supporting its members during both good and bad times. One such bad time was when Psi's own Matt Fields '16 experienced a severe loss of a family member. His brother, Nolan Fields, passed away this February after a hard-fought battle with stage 3 non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. The Psi members came together along with 25 other organizations and helped to raise more than $8,000 for The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation. There is a reason why "every fraternity strives to be like the DKEs." We are campus leaders and continue to prove our leadership with outstanding pledge classes every single year. A great football coach once said, "If you believe in yourself and have dedication and pride and never quit, you'll be a winner. The price of victory is high, but so are the rewards." He also said, "I ain't never been nothing but a winner." I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful summer. W.G. Best Regards, Dr. Psi Outback University, put on by Outback America, is a retreat where college students get away from all of the distractions and commotion of a college campus to evaluate the true meaning of life as God intended. DKE had an impressive 19 brothers attend the retreat. This was the most members out of any fraternity at the University of Alabama.
