He had ex- pressed that he was a fan of the show, and though he was approached about doing a cameo earlier, he turned that down. Then, "New Girl" was given a slot after the Super Bowl in 2014, after Prince's management had said he'd still like to be considered for an episode. It took some writing and rewriting, but a party at his house (it wasn't really his house, but a Los Angeles stand-in) was the major set- ting of that story ... and as Meriwether recalled, Prince offered notes on certain scenes to punch up the hu- mor, and he ultimately was the reason for Jess (Zooey Deschanel) having an emo- tional breakthrough. With "New Girl" now in syndication, appearing weekdays on TBS, rest assured that episode will continue to be seen for a long time to come.
