MT.SHASTA The Volcanic Legacy Community Part- nership and its partners are revising the Corridor Man- agement Plan for the Volca- nic Legacy Scenic Byway in 2016. The 500-mile byway ex- tends from Crater Lake National Park in Oregon through a chain of volca- noes and geologic forma- tions to Lassen Volcanic Na- tional Park and Susanville in northeastern California. The byway was designated as a National Scenic Byway All American Road in Ore- gon in 1998 and in Califor- nia in 2002. Because of its diverse ge- ography and history, the by- way has high national sig- nificance which led to its distinction as one of only 31 All-American Roads in the United States. The by- way area is an important driver of tourism and lo- cal employment for nearby communities. Management of the by- way is guided by a Corri- dor Management Plan. The revised Plan will include ac- tion items that byway com- munities and agency part- ners would like implement over the next ten years. "We need help from by- way communities to iden- tify their highest prior- ity projects for the byway within their region," said Elizabeth Norton, president of the Volcanic Legacy Com- munity Partnership. "This could be more interpretive sites, upgraded public fa- cilities, trails, highway im- provements or marketing initiatives, etc." A survey is being con- ducted to solicit commu- nity feedback at https:// www.surveymonkey.com/r/ PWNXBLC. "We hope our agency partners and community members will take a few minutes to respond to the 10 questions in the survey and comment on what you'd like to see accomplished in the future. We value your opinions," said Norton. Comments are requested by June 1. Local meetings are scheduled to discuss byway project priorities in the fol- lowing locations. All meet- ings start at 4 p.m. for about two hours. June 6 in Klamath Falls, Oregon at the Klam- ath Ranger District, 2819 Dahlia St., Ste. A June 7 in Tulelake, at Mike and Wanda's Restau- rant, 423 Modoc Ave. June 8 in Mt. Shasta, at the Mt. Shasta Ranger Dis- trict, White House, 204 West Alma June 13 in Susanville, at the Historic Susanville Rail- road Depot, 601 Richmond Road June 14 in Mineral, at Lassen Volcanic National Park headquarters off State Route 36 "Preparing this new Cor- ridor Management Plan is a partnership effort," said Norton. "Once we've prior- itized the list of byway proj- ects, we'll be working with our partners over the next several years to implement them. We're excited about what the future will bring through this Plan." TOURISM COURTESYPHOTO A section of the Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway is pictured. ELECTION Monday is last day to register to vote During the period of July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2015, Tehama County VSO ob- tained new and in- creased monthly cash ben- efits from the US De- partment of Veter- ans Affairs on an an- nualized basis of more than $23,245 in new ben- efit payments. In addi- tion, the VSO obtained $890,091 in one-time benefits, which consist of single and retroac- tive payments received by veterans and their de- pendents. Studies have shown that monies spent in a community could turn over between 3 to 7 times, which is a fairly accurate measure of the spending impact on a community. Using the conservative multiplier of 3, this equates to a spending impact of at least $69,735 from the annualized monthly cash benefits and $2,670,273 from the one-time bene- fits received. In addition, claim ad- vocacy services provided by Tehama County Social Services and the VSO to obtain and maintain federal monetary bene- fits have resulted in sav- ings to our county based on our active participa- tion in the State Man- dated Welfare Referral Program. This program re- quires the VSO to verify and make benefits enti- tlement determinations on all public assistance Medi-Cal referrals re- ceived from Social Ser- vices. Included in the totals above are $55,212 in an- nualized monthly ben- efits and $180,192 in one-time benefits re- ceived by Veterans who had applied for public assistance grants. Spe- cial thanks to Tehama County Social Services for providing the refer- rals and assistance to our veterans. Redding Veterans Re- source Center case man- ager Michele Fox will be available in the Red Bluff VSO office 1:30-4 p.m. May 26 to meet with homeless Tehama County Veterans concerning transitional housing and other VRC assistance.
