Theta Techsan Kappa Alpha Theta • Gamma Phi Chapter • Texas Tech University Spring 2016 O n February 6, more than 300 Gamma Phis were in Lubbock to celebrate Founder's Day 2016 (see page 6 for photos). The event, hosted at the Lubbock Country Club, featured keynote speaker Rita Williams '66 (who has won an Emmy and a Peabody award for her achievements in broadcast journalism); a celebration of our 25- and 50-year Thetas; a performance by Kite Chorus; naming of our Inspirational Twin Star honorees; as well as an update from Kim Clark Kirkpatrick '81 on the progress of our lodge renovation. Alumnae were inspired to hear how their donations have made this once- in-a-generation project possible. Although it's only been a short time since the renovation update at Founder's Day, much more has taken place at the lodge, as construction is happening fast and furious! All the hardwood floors are in, the outdoor sprinkler system has been installed, landscaping and grass is in progress, all curb and gutter work is complete, fixtures are in, carpet is down, and outside stucco has been applied. We are on the verge of receiving our certificate of occupancy as well! In the next several weeks, we will finalize all the furniture selections and are working on placement, accessories, wallpaper, draperies, and much more. $67,481 TO MEET CAMPAIGN GOAL As we list the number of updates happening at the project site, it's almost hard to believe that merely three years ago, an updated lodge was just a dream. Through the hard work of our dedicated renovation and campaign committee volunteers and generous alumnae donations, our dream is now a tangible reality—but this does not mean our work is done! We must still raise $67,481 to meet our $1.4 million fundraising goal. It is critical we reach this mark so we can continue to pay down our construction loans, lessening the burden of debt upon the active chapter. CAN YOU SPARE $42 PER MONTH? Just think, if only 27 sisters stepped forward to commit a five-year pledge of $2,500, we could raise the $67,481 we need to bring this project to successful completion. A $2,500 pledge breaks down to $500 per year, or just $42 per month. If you're one of the 1,800 sisters who has not contributed to the Linked Together, Building for Tomorrow campaign, now is the time. We would love for you to be involved and help us reach our goal of $1.4 million. Any gift amount is needed and appreciated. If you have already contributed, please consider using the enclosed pledge form (or visit www.katgammaphi.kintera.org/donate) to increase your gift by 20% or to add a sixth year to your existing pledge schedule. SAVE THE DATE Gamma Phi Chapter deeply appreciates the support of every sister, and we'd like to invite you to attend the Theta lodge dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday, August 6 at #19 Greek Circle. We hope you'll be able to attend and see for yourself the wonderful lodge that alumnae donations helped build.
