HEALTH Localhospital hosts pregnancy wellness event Staff report RED BLUFF A 65-year-old rural resident has filed a claim for dam- ages against Tehama County and two sheriff's deputies after being pulled to the ground and put in handcuffs on his property south- west of Red Bluff. Michael Murchison says two deputies in plain clothes and an unmarked vehicle entered his property on Joint Road off Red Bank Road Nov. 30, 2015 and com- pelled him to attempt to brandish a weapon, according to a news release issued Wednesday after- noon by Michael Scheibli, an at- torney representing Murchison. Deputies Jeff Garrett and Rich- ard Knox were responding to a claim that Murchison, who was convicted of felony assault with a firearm in 1987, brandished a weapon at a realtor's client view- ing property nearby on Nov. 25, 2015. Based on the previous con- viction, the detectives believed Murchison was prohibited from possessing a firearm, each wrote in his report. TEHAMA COUNTY Re si de nt files claim against deputies By Heather Hoelscher hhoelscher@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Heather on Twitter RED BLUFF Construction is tem- porarily halted on the airport res- taurant due to a contractor's li- cense issue, pushing back the original grand opening to an un- determined date. City Manager Richard Crabtree said at the City Council meeting Tuesday the license of the contrac- tor on the project expired March 31, but the city was told the re- newal paperwork has been filed. The city is waiting on the li- censing renewal for the con- struction company, Mehringer, to go through with the state so construction can resume. A new grand opening date has not yet be determined. As of Tuesday there has been no word on whether or not the li- cense had been renewed, suggest- ing the grand opening scheduled for May 28 will no longer be pos- sible. If the issue is not resolved by the end of the week, city staff may have to look at other options to move forward with the project — further delaying the process. If so, staff will bring that information to the council for review and ap- proval. The restaurant, formerly known as Valeigh's and more re- cently the Hangar Cafe, closed in 2015 due to multiple issues including not being compliant with the Americans with Dis- ability Act. Since then the Public Works Department and the city have worked toward renovating the downstairs area, formerly a museum, to become the new res- taurant. Once the license is renewed for the contractor, or the city makes other plans, the restaurant will back on track for completion.
