Visions Violets of Together We Are Stronger Beta Sigma Thankful for Everything You Do Beta Sigma Chapter of Sigma Kappa Sorority at Purdue University • Spring 2016 hank you! YOU, our alumnae, active members, and staff are the reason our chapter continues to flourish, and I pledge to thank you on a more personal level this year. Thank you to the dedicated individuals who devote their time, energy, and insights on our Advisory and House Corporation Boards! These visionaries drive excellence for our chapter while maintaining full personal and professional lives. Collectively, we manage an annual operating budget of $695,050 and a team of eight people while we work together to create exceptional experiences for our collegiate members. Check out our board member's day jobs posted in the Advisory and House Corporation Board rosters. • House Corporation Board notable accomplishment: Before interest rate hikes and a looming balloon payment occurred, and with no negative impact to our annual operating budgets, we refinanced the $2 million loan taken out in 2012, which added new building and life safety systems, study room amenities, and improved aesthetics throughout. We reduced our interest rate, our overall debt and financial risks, as well as the length of our loan term. The 2012 renovation improvements continue to make measurable, positive impacts for our chapter. Thank you to our house director, Carrie Sandorff, and her staff! We've included a short article in this issue about Carrie, the staff she manages, and all they do for our chapter. • After years of ups and downs, in the first quarter of 2016, we finally achieved a perfect trifecta with our phenomenal staff that provides on-site facility management, housekeeping, and dietary services. Thank you to our parent's club for your continued support each and every year! You rock! • First quarter 2016 notable accomplishment: A new large, commercial refrigerator was recently added to the Sigma Kafe. Thank you to our alumnae throughout the U.S., young and young at heart! One by one, more of you continue to support our chapter through donations of time, money, memorabilia, and professional services. You inspire me and make my heart joyful. Your stories of the past delight me and your contributions enable us to remain competitive by supplementing our annual house improvements funds. • F i r s t q u a r t e r 2 0 1 6 i n c r e d i b l e accomplishment: We endowed the Beta Sigma Scholarship Fund for years to come and added more scholarship opportunities for our members, investing in our collective futures. Thank you to our collegiate members! Our culture is the collective result of our personalities, passions, and purpose. You are authentic and spirited. Continue to explore, grow, and enjoy life. Our legacy endures in you. • Our chapter's community service and leadership is outstanding and still growing. Reference their exceptional list on page 6. I hope all of you enjoy reading about the history of the Greek community at Purdue with photo highlights of recent campus growth, and spring and summer travels as viewed through the eyes of our collegians. Our diverse spirits, shared vision, and commitment to each other are our competitive advantages that enable us to thrive. Together we are stronger. Thank you for your generosity past and present!
