CUMBERLAND County Agencies Provide Services At Project Homeless Connect Several Cumberland County agencies provided assistance for the homeless population at the Project Homeless Connect event on May 17. The annual event is sponsored by the Cumberland County Continuum of Care on Homelessness and is designed to give the homeless in Cumberland County access to agencies and services that can help make a difference in their lives. Dee Taylor, community services manager at Cumberland County Community Development, said approximately 300 homeless people came to the event held at the Smith Recreation Center. "We had over 50 agencies participating by providing different types of services such as health-related services, substance abuse counseling, services," Taylor said. In addition to Community Development, the Public Health Department, Social Services, Mental Health Center and Veterans Services participated. Fascinate-U Children's Museum to develop an interactive exhibit to show children how food gets from the farm to their dinner tables, and the United Way and a local agribusiness are supporting the effort.
