Fernando Barrera, 30, of Corn- ing was arrested and booked into Tehama County Jail on the felony charge of molesting a child under the age of 18, sending or receiv- ing obscene matter and possess- ing obscene matter. Corning Police Department be- gan an investigation after a par- ent of the victim told police that a crime was being committed by a Corning High School staff mem- ber against a child, according to the press release issued at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday by the department. During the investigation of- ficers learned that Barrera sent lewd photos and a video of him- self to the victim, according to the release. Barrera befriended the student using popular Internet social media sites and was con- versing back and forth with the victim over the few days before his arrest. There is no evidence as of 11 a.m. Tuesday that any of the criminal activity happened on the Corning High School campus but it is confirmed that Barrera and the student were in contact during school hours, according to the release. This matter is still under inves- tigation. CORNING HIGH Teacher'sassistantcharged By Julie Zeeb jzeeb@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Zeeb on Twitter CORNING Car enthusiasts from all over will be heading into Corning for the annual May Madness Car Show that cele- brates 20 years on Friday and Saturday, but this year in a dif- ferent location. "We've moved for this year to Northside Park, 1414 Colusa St., due to the streetscape ren- ovations on Solano Street," said Corning Chamber of Commerce Executive Director J.C. Pender- graft. "We have not been able to do the cruise this year. With be- ing moved from downtown, we tried to figure out a location and the one we found did not have a good location for the cruise. With that being the case, we de- cided to hold off on the cruise just for this year because of this location. We're not looking to get rid of it entirely." There will be a Business Choice Preview Show held on Friday instead of the cruise thanks to seven local businesses who stepped up and sponsored the show, which will be like the normal car show, but with a twist. It is free to enter the Fri- day show. "It's not the same rules and regulations as Saturday's show and shine," Pendergraft said. "Each business comes in to judge the cars according to that business' standards. It can be for something like best paint job or most unique vehicle, cool- est looking car or even biggest tires." All events will be at North- side Park with the preview show kicking things off at 5:30 p.m. Friday followed by a barbecue at 6 p.m. hosted by Rancher's Deli and Meats, which will provide a hamburger, hot dog or chicken fajita meal for $10. Cretin's Cat- tle, a local rock-a-billy band, will provide entertainment. Registration for both Friday's free car show and the show and shine Saturday can be done ahead by calling the chamber at 824-5550 or in person 3-5:30 p.m. Friday. Cost is $35 per ve- hicle for Saturday's show or free for those who want to show without being judged. "We want to encourage peo- ple to bring their cars out so if they are showing only and not being judged it's free," Pender- graft said. Registration is being done 7-10 a.m. Saturday, during which time the Corning Volunteer Fire Department is holding a pan- cake breakfast for $5 at the fire hall, 814 Fifth St., with 50 per- MAY MADNESS CAR SHOW COMING TO CORNING DAILYNEWSFILEPHOTOS Cars line Solano Street for the 2015May Madness Car Show held in Corning.
