On the air and Ezekiel Elliott likely will be among the next group of players to head to the podium for a hand- shake from Commissioner Roger Goodell. Offensive tackles Ronnie Stanley of Notre Dame and Jack Conklin from Michigan State also are expected to go quickly. And everyone thinks they are a wise selec- tion. "I'm versatile. I'm a jack of all trades," said El- liott, trying to buck a re- cent trend moving running backs down in the draft. "I have worked on my game so that I have no holes. I don't think when I get on the field that I have any weaknesses. That's just how I think. You can al- ways get better at things, but I think there's nothing I'm bad at." Dra FROM PAGE 1 we're that good offensively. I think we can carry that momentum to the next series." The weekend se- ries sets up an intriguing matchup: One of majors' best contact-hitting teams against a staff of flame- throwing strikeout artists. Giants hitters fanned just three times Wednes- day and have only 141 this season. Entering the day, the only teams with fewer strikeouts were the Angels (108) and Kansas City Roy- als (137). "A lot of think people think hitting is about home runs," Bochy said. "We've got power throughout the lineup, but we're more of a 'grind guys' type of club, and those guys don't strike out as much." The Padres can attest to that. The Giants had 11 sin- gles, two doubles and three triples en route to finishing off a three-game sweep. The triples by Pence, Belt and Duffy marked the just the third time the Gi- ants have hit three or more triples in a game at AT&T Park. They also did it on June 25, 2015 and Aug. 31, 2013). The hit barrage made for some long innings — and left Samardzija in the dug- out for long stretches. Not that he was complaining. "If your rhythm is get- ting messed up because you're hitting too much," he said, "those are some champagne problems." In all, the Giants' 11 tri- ples this season tie for the most in the majors. What's the new catch phrase? Fly- Fly Baby? "Yeah, I think testament to our offense," Duffy said. "Somebody pointed it out in like the eighth inning — 'We don't have a homer to- day.' And I said, that's all right. I'll take it. It was def- initely a big day for us." Samardzija gave up five runs in 52⁄3 innings, hurt most by Matt Kemp's two run homer in the top of the third. But the pitcher now has five RBIs this season, es- tablishing a season-best before the calendar turns to May. His previous career high was three (in 2012 and 2014). "That was fun to watch," Samardzija said. "That was fun to be a part of, too. A little broken-bat blooper at the right time can make you look pretty good."
