3 SIGMA CHI Epsilon Kappa Men Lead by Example Chapter Achieves Highest GPA on Campus T he past semester has been great for the Epsilon Kappa Chapter of Sigma Chi. Alongside the initiation of 22 new members and the pledging of two more, brotherhood involvement and the overall quality of membership have greatly improved. This has allowed us to set the standard for fraternities at U of M and has led the men of Sigma Chi to seek out opportunities, not only on campus, but out in the community as well. Chapter Holds Highest GPA on Campus For the seventh semester in a row, our Chapter had the highest GPA on campus, sitting at a 3.18. Our newly initiated class also had the highest new member GPA on campus. Scholarship committees have been set up in the Chapter to build on this success and raise our GPA even higher. "Epsilon Kappa strives for academic excellence every semester and their hard work is shown through their consistent appearance as the top academic Chapter at the University of Memphis," Scholarship Chairman Daniel Stevenson '18 shared. Brothers Take on Leadership Opportunities Members of Sigma Chi are found in many organizations around campus. Jared Rodgers '16 is the current IFC President. Anthony Rauseo '16 and I serve on the Up 'til Dawn executive board, which benefits St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, as well as many other brothers who participate in the organization on different levels. Chase Elliot '17, Justin Rountree '18, and Chandler McCullough '18 are all members of Tiger Elite, and a number of brothers are emerging leaders or part of the honors program. Daniel Stevenson '18 and Justin Rountree '18 served as Orientation Guides this year and we have five Frosh Camp Counselors serving this summer as well. Epsilon Kappa Focused on Philanthropy In a benefit event honoring St. Jude patient, Allie Allen, her father, Eric Allen, Gamma Pi '91, an alumnus from New York, and her uncle, Michael Dote '85, came out to support both her and our Chapter. We enjoyed getting to meet both of them and are so thankful to them for allowing this event to happen. Recently, the Chapter participated in a Polar Bear Plunge for their cause, Special Olympics of Greater Memphis. The team consisted of 12 brothers and was ranked sixth in fundraising, bringing in approximately $1,100. "The way that our Chapter has approached philanthropy events this semester has been incredible. We've really tried to improve ourselves in the area," Philanthropy Chairman Justin Montoya '17 shared. Thank You, Loyal Alumni Alumni, thank you for your continued support and guidance. We would not be the Chapter we are today if it weren't for the example you have set. The men of Epsilon Kappa are proud to add to the history of Sigma Chi at U of M. By striking a balance between academic success, philanthropy, and involvement, our active members are leaving a lasting impact on Greek life, on campus, and in the surrounding community for years to come.
