The WISE OLD OWL Epsilon Kappa ChaptEr of sigma Chi fratErnity at thE UnivErsity of mEmphis Spring 2016 FEATURES: Campaign Goal Within Reach 2 • Alumnus Spotlights 2, 4 • Epsilon Kappa Men Lead 3 EPSILON KAPPA EXTERIOR RENOVATIONS PLANNED FOR SUMMER 2016 Campaign to End June 30 T hings have been very busy for your House Corporation since the last newsletter. In some cases, it's been a "hurry up and wait" situation, but considering what has to be done, that's understandable. First, let me congratulate the Active Chapter. The Epsilon Kappa Chapter's achievements continue to keep them at the top of the Greek world at the U of M. They literally excel in every facet of University and Greek activities. Sound like a broken record? It's the best broken record I've ever heard, and both Sigma Chi and the University are well aware of the Chapter's accomplishments. There are more details elsewhere in this newsletter. LEGACY OF EXCELLENCE CAMPAIGN TO END JUNE 30 You'll also find an updated list (as of our printing deadline) for the donations to our capital campaign. We want to wrap up the campaign by June 30, and I hope you will consider a donation this spring. Here's what we've been able to accomplish thanks to the generosity of our donors. The Chapter House has had an extensive renovation in both the structure and the furnishings. We will be completing the additional property acquisition and outside renovations this summer. This latter phase has required working with the Sigma Chi Foundation, the University, and the surveyors/contractors to ensure we are doing this correctly at all levels. That has required more time than we initially estimated, but the finished product will be more than worth the effort. The chapter and entire House Corporation, along with Gary Grear '69, and a few other brothers, have all been involved in making this great project happen. We look forward to having events to "show off" and they will be announced as they're planned for the fall. HOUSE CORPORATION BOARD WELCOMES NEW BOARD MEMBERS Your House Corporation had its annual meeting in late January to elect board members for 2016. Returning to the board are Kirk Caraway '94, Bunky Wingfield '68, Chuck Pierce '06, Kurt Voldeng '89, Michael Wiegert '89, Mike Richmond '68, Gray Bowles '06 and myself. New members are Neil Carrigan '07, John Hanna '08, and Danny Knight '99. I would like to thank Sam Coates '10, Mike Keenan '89, and Stephen Evers '95 for their service as they rotate off the board. We will meet shortly to elect officers, as we approve the various contracts necessary to complete the renovation work. COME SEE THE RENOVATIONS! Again, thank you so much for your support. You make it possible for us to better serve the needs of the Chapter House and the Chapter. These Actives have continued to richly deserve our support as they continue to bring honor and distinction to themselves, their Chapter and our Fraternity. I hope you will also seek to be a part of this true "Band of Brothers" with your attendance at events and, if possible, your financial support. I hope to see all of you sometime in the fall. It's well worth your time to see what's been done and to reconnect with Sigma Chi. I will be stepping back from the board presidency, but I will remain onboard and involved as much as possible. I think it's time for a new vision and new leadership, but it has been a pleasure and honor to serve.
