ooking back, it seems inevitable that Neka
Pasquale would be where she is today
— the founder and force behind Urban Rem-
edy, a raw foods and juicing producer with
stores in Marin, San Francisco and Napa.
Her food story starts with her grand-
mothers, one Jewish, the other Italian, both
excellent cooks, according to Pasquale. They
were so good, in fact, that when he was in
high school, her father sold the Italian food
his mother made to his fellow students. Not
surprisingly, her father was also a wonderful
cook who in his lifetime started a number of
restaurants.
"We had the best relationship," Pasquale
says. "We were always cooking food. A lot
of my creativity comes from him."
Creativity also comes from the hours she
spent in the kitchen "making concoctions" for
her uncle, who was a vegetarian, and from
