S P R I N G 2 0 1 6 | NORTH BAY WOMAN 23 S ports and television have always played important roles in Amy Gutierrez's life. The Petaluma native enjoyed rooting on the San Francis- co Giants at Candlestick Park when she was growing up and admired, and was inspired by, the female newscasters she watched on national broadcasts. Her love of journalism and sports met in the form of an extraordinary opportunity, after working in news jobs in Santa Rosa (KFTY) and San Francisco (KRON), and producing sports in Los Angeles (FOX SportsNet), when she was given the nod to head to AT&T Park. Gutierrez earned the chance to fill in as the in-game reporter for the San Francisco Giants on Comcast SportsNet in 2008 — a job where previous broadcasters hadn't lasted. "My mom always told me that luck was when hard work and opportunity came together," says Gutierrez, 42, who goes by Amy G when she's on-air. Her success has stuck and her timing has proved perfect, as she has followed every pitch of the Giants' meteoric rise to become World Series cham- pions in 2010, 2012 and 2014, along with the mob celebrations at the victory parades in San Francisco. She also hosts the popular G-Mag show and other pre- and post-game segments and features. Despite her almost household name ac- claim in the Bay Area — and her three World Series rings — Gutierrez remains very much grounded in her North Bay roots. She attend- ed local schools — La Tercera Elementary, Kenilworth Junior High and Casa Grande High School in Petaluma — and excelled at volley- ball, basketball and softball, earning 11 varsity letters. After that Gutierrez graduated with a degree in rhetoric and communication from the university of California at Davis. She's been married to Paul Gutierrez, >> This page, clockwise from top left: San Francisco Giants broadcaster Amy Gutierrez interviews second baseman Joe Panik in Arizona in 2015; Gutierrez joins the booth with broadcasters Duane Kuiper (left) and Mike Krukow in Arizona in the 2015 opening series; Gutierrez tapes a segment during a Giants batting practice; Gutierrez interviews pitcher Jake Peavy at his Southern Falls plantation in Alabama; Gutierrez poses with Giants Manager Bruce Bochy at a fund-raising event at an Amici's East Coast Pizzeria in 2015. – Photos provided by Amy Gutierrez Below: Gutierrez's three San Francisco Giants World Series rings. – Photo by Stuart Lirette Opposite page: Amy Gutierrez sits on the pitcher's mound at Carter Field, home of Petaluma National Little League. – Photo by Stuart Lirette, styled by Malia Anderson, hair and makeup by Megan Hadden
